Who are the top copywriters of today?

Ok, I know this concept has been done before. But I'm interested. Who are the top copywriters of today? The one's that are really kicking it in the modern internet age?

I've studied some of the great's; John Carlton, Clayton Makepeace, Gary Halbert, etc. But who are their modern equivalents? And where would I go to see some of their work.

Thanks, Brian.

Bob Bly is still as good as ever.

Just had a look around his site. Plenty of examples of his own sales copy. Pretty straight-down-the-line, gimmick free copywriter I'd say. Clearly successful though. Thanks Chad.

Scott Haines is one more. Worked with Gary Halbert.

I like Frank Kern's copy. Eben Pagan. And Jon Benson.

The term "top copywriter" is ambiguous (a no-no in sales copy, BTW).

How do you define "top copywriter"?

Most sales? Most respected? Best client list? Something else?

I honestly think that 'Top Copywriter' doesn't exist because we have a lot of erea in modern internet age. For me the good question must be who is the top copywriter in some kind of market in internet.

Sorry Alex, Olympio, I'm a new to this side of things. I should have clarified. I meant internet sales page copywriters. Those that have taken the established principles and successfully developed them entice today's sales-pitch savvy/weary consumers.

      Regards, Brian.

Are you looking to hire them? Or study their work to improve your own skills?

      Study their skills Mike.

I've no intention of training myself to become a copywriter for hire. I have a website which provides me with a reasonable income selling my own products: An ebook, coaching, referrals, etc.

The most important thing I've learned over the past 2 years is that sales pages can always be improved. I've more than doubled my sales by split testing. But I know there is still more available.

If I read copy that resonates with me, my theory is perhaps it will also resonate with my customers.

      Regards, Brian.

        Brian,

If you're talking online copy, then it really is going to depend on the niche and the product. The voice, pacing, and tone used in the copy is going to vary greatly.

As a broad example... the way you'd "talk" to a woman in weight loss sales copy is completely different than the way you'd "talk" to someone in IM niche sales copy. IM niche sales copy will also vary wildly depending on what platform (i.e. WSO, ClickBank, etc) it's being sold on.

If I tried to name who was writing great copy as an online copywriter, I could drop a dozen names or more right now and still unintentionally neglect a bunch of other copywriters worthy of mentioning.

If you're trying to hone your skills for your own niche products, then I'd suggest looking at what your competitors are using (the ones using great copy) and similar niches for inspiration.

If you're looking at similar niches, then perhaps try contacting those product owners through their website. Ask them who wrote their copy. Some of them will be happy to tell you. Others won't because they don't want to share who is making them a lot of money.

        Hope that helps,

        Mike

I understand what you are saying Mike. However, I hope you won't be offended when I say I'm not prepared to reveal my niche on WF. I'm in publishing, that's as far as I'm comfortable to go. My site visitors are generally well educated, and many are experienced writers themselves.

The standard IM sales pitch banter just doesn't work with them. I know, I've tried. I've also gone down the avenue of looking at what competitors are doing and pretty much exhausted that too.

It's conversational tone I'm trying to improve. And please don't suggest I be myself, I'm just not good enough.

It's annoying, because I found what I was looking for. A few months ago I was on a copywriting site and the guy (I presume owner) just had it. Concise. Intelligent. Witty. Brilliant. Not a single word or sentence wasted.

You know when you read something. And the conversational flow is so seamlessly entertaining and informative you simply can't stop. Even when it's about a subject you are not particularly interested in. Yea. He was that good.

Thought I'd bookmarked it, but alas, no.

            Brian,

            I'm not offended at all.

Saying "who's the top copywriters" is about as general as "who's the prettiest woman at the party?" It depends on your needs, wants, and preferences. Like you said, one style (IM) of copy didn't work for your audience... so showing you copywriters who write that style isn't going to be of much help to you.

I understand not wanting to publicly share your website or niche. It's the same rationale why more and more copywriters are not sharing publicly what they've written. Or their clients are insisting on non-disclosure agreements (most of my mine have been for several years) because they don't want their copy stolen or knocked-off.

If you want to shoot me an email through my copywriting site or PM here (email is faster), then I'll see if I can point you in the right direction. Your information will be kept 100% confidential.

            Hope that helps,

            Mike

Clayton Nee's products do hundreds of thousands of dollars in sales on Clickbank every single day. All written by the same copywriter using the same basic formula. If we're talking "top copywriter" from a monetary standpoint, his writer has got to be up there.

I googled Clayton Nee for some titles of his Clickbank products but drew a blank. Any clues?

Who IS this Clayton Nee you speak of, Cool Hand Luke?

It's interesting to watch the health niche on Clickbank go the way of IM a few years back. Crazy claims and stories. Wonder if/when CB will catch on and be forced to clean it up?

Lol well apparently Clayton is a master scientist/researcher/genius considering he knows the secret, little-known cure to just about every malady known to man AND he can help you get women, attract your destiny, and win the lottery!

In all seriousness, CB is never going to clean itself up because bullsh*t makes them millions. I believe Clayton's company is CB's top vendor overall right now and literally ALL of their products use bullsh*t and photoshopped pictures in his VSLs.

In this video sales letter and on the text version of their "Pound Melter" offer the vendor claims that this stock image is him:

and then goes on to say that this is him "two and a half years ago" before his "amazing" weight loss:

BUT that is simply a photoshopped picture of this original, which has been on the internet for years:

And a quick reverse image search reveals that ALL of this vendor's supposed "before and afters" are simply stolen from other websites or photoshopped (poorly) from stock images.

It's a sad state of affairs that Clickbank willingly lets happen.

imo the world's top 4 copywriters (in no special order) are Clayton Makepeace, John Carlton, Dan Kennedy and Michel Fortin. I've spent a fortune on copywriting resources, well worth every penny, and those are the best. I've studied them for hundreds of hours and done very well.

Wow I haven't heard of half of these...better get reading!

I like Neville Medhora. When I didn't really understand what copywriting was and thought it was really boring, Neville was the one that showed me the light. He just tells it like it is, and his course is brilliant.
