My Top 2 Tips For New Freelance Writers...

I randomly pop in and write a post for the newer copywriters to help them out when they're starting a freelancing business, because I know how tough it can be. I'll keep this short as I don't have much time, so here goes:

Tip #1) Do Business Generation FIRST - This means before you do ANY of your work, do business generation. This is helpful because doing it this way means that it will be a priority for you... and doing good work for your clients will keep you motivated to get their work done on time as well. Remember, you need a lot of new business when you're just starting out, so focus on doing biz gen FIRST.

Tip #2) Do Biz Gen DAILY - Form the habit of doing business generation EVERY DAY for at least a month before you slow down... you'll be surprised at how much you can get done if you do it daily.

So, do business generation, and do it daily... that's the key to going freelance and getting all the business you need.

Hope it helps some of the newer guys.

Good luck,
-Cam

Can you explain a little bit more about business generation?

What do you mean by it?

This is important even when you have a thriving practice going. I often find that when I get swamped with work I usually end up going through a slow period afterward, because when I was busy with work, I wasn't pitching as much.

Yes, I've had the same experience.

Also, one thing I want to mention, you don't have to do A LOT of business generation... really you only have to do a bit, BUT YOU HAVE TO DO IT EVERY SINGLE DAY... it will really add up. Do it everyday, and do it first. Right after your morning routine, ideally (or before).
