SEO, Conversion Optimization and Copywriting

I understand these are 3 sub forums on WF. Still, my question:



If you focus op Copywriting, don't you take SEO and CRO with you? If you focus on CRO, don't you take SEO and Copywriting with you? If you focus on SEO, don't you take CRO and copywriting with you?

And, if I am right (which I am probably not), where should a noobie lay the focus?

  • Jeez, SEO is very different from the other two which you mention.

    CRO and Copywriting go hand-in-hand, but it's not mandatory to have BOTH. You could just focus on one or the other.

    SEO is really a whole other beast... sure, some Copywriters know some basic on-page SEO for writing web copy, but SEO is much, much, larger than that.

    If you want to be a Copywriter, I'd personally recommend learning CRO and at least knowing basic on-page SEO which you can learn in less than an hour. You don't need to know about backlinks or anything like that.

  • Thank you for the response. A 1 out of 51 viewers feels a bit emberassing!

    First of all, I am huge believer in specializing rather than generalising. At this point, I am not sure if I want to go towards copywriting or SEO. I am not sure because both hits my talents and both probably have a specialized careerpath that can take me far.

    The reason I believed SEO and Copywriting is because of onpage SEO. Writing content, thinking from an audience perspective. Thinking about keywords and how to build copy around that.

    Where SEO is about ranking high. Copywriting is about Conversion rate optimization. But from my perspective, CRO helps SEO again. So it's a nice loop.

    • Well, if you want to focus, then focus. Like I said, you can learn everything a Copywriter needs to know about SEO in less than an hour, it's pretty basic stuff.

      If you want to build and write for landing pages, then CRO is important. If you want to JUST focus on Copywriting, then you can do that too.
