Hold nothing back (round 2: the email blast!)

Hi Warriors,

Excited to be back with some fellow internet marketers.

Tl:dr; tear this copy apart.

Really enjoyed the last 'dissection' of my copy, where you guys helped turn some floppy copy for my meetup group into something that fully booked 3 events in a row with no marketing. I cannot thank you enough for that.

I'm now sending an email out to the people that attended the meetup. I've included the copy below. I've tried to learn from past mistakes, but I'm sure you guys will rip this apart. I just can't 'see' the problems.

Please take it to pieces. Hold nothing back. Is this copy that would convert?

Will

At a founders' dinner tonight, several founders lamented that they couldn't get good developer talent. Regional offices were paying "London" wages to hire talent because there weren't enough staff available. One guy said they'd 'literally exhausted the available talent in Dorset. There's no-one else to hire'.

Companies are paying £40k+ for this skill, and I don't think it's because they 'want' to. See for yourself: http://workinstartups.com/job-board/jobs/programmers/

So there's a deep need for talent. That's the reason I run my twice-weekly sessions to show people how they can learn for themselves for free.

For people that want to learn from an instructor, I'm running a weekend course to rocket-boost people to completing their first working 'smart' site. Once you've done your first site, you can repeat the process to build number two, three... building a winning portfolio... and winning that job.

Ruby on Rails Weekend Course

Learn the essentials of Ruby on Rails in one weekend, and complete your first smart website.

Ruby on Rails helps you build smart websites fast. Say goodbye to half-finished tutorial projects. Say hello to the first of your portfolio of smart websites.

In this Weekend Course you get :

- To build a working, online, “Twitter” style website so you can see the whole build process.
- To learn web development the way professionals do it (not just the code), so you can build faster or get employed. You'll learn Test Driven Development, Agile Workflow, & Subversioning.
- Personal guidance from me so you don’t get stuck.

Ruby on Rails is a fast, modern way to build websites.
It’s used by modern tech companies like Kickstarter and AirBnB.

Course details:

9am - 6pm, Saturday 30th & Sunday 31st 31st May
Location: Central London, Near Kings Cross (Location sent with invitation)
Tickets left: 4

Other courses cost £8000, with financing options available! I don't think that's fair. I'm looking to run a monthly £450 course. I think the potential earnings make this a great price. But because this is the first weekend course, I'm reducing the class size for extra supervision, and reducing the price.

Introductory price: £200
Group Tickets: 20% discount for purchases of 2 or more.

About your instructor, Will:

I’ve run three businesses, two of which were tech businesses. I’ve worked with
several tech companies to help build their websites, and have several hundred hours of
teaching experience.

I’m interested in building scalable businesses that can help thousands of people.

I’ve been employed to do Web Development for:
Campus Society: http://www.campussociety.com/
Explovia: http://explovia.com/

And I’ve done it for my own companies including DriverHunt:
http://www.driverhunt.com

In the words of people I’ve worked with:

"I could think of few people better to introduce you to software development than Will.
Professionally, he's highly organised, very able and extremely productive. Personally,
he's friendly, good company and patient. He combines ability with enthusiasm - the
recipe for the makings of a great leader and teacher."
Jonathan Lewis, Founder, multiple startups

"Will has very clear thinking that cuts through the jargon that usually surrounds
development. His patient, friendly approach make him an approachable teacher.
Deep understanding, and an excellent communicator."
Matt Vaugese - Founder & CTO, Nanoget

About the course:

We’ll be following The Rails Tutorial by Michael Hartl. It’s Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales
favourite book. According to Software Engineer Mike Long - "Probably the best software
tutorial I’ve experienced “. I have Michael’s permission to use the course.

I think it’s fantastic - well structured, clear, and project-based. The best way to learn.

At the end of the course, you will have built a working similar to Twitter.

FAQ:

What other courses are available in London?

London’s other main Ruby on Rails courses are: The Web Development Intensive
by General Assembly, £8000. Maker’s Academy, also £8000. For those that want
a longer course, I recommend checking them out.

Is Ruby on Rails the best choice?

Yes. You can also learn Javascript or Python, but I believe RoR is the fastest to learn and fastest to use.

Are you pushing Ruby on Rails because it’s the only language you know?

I used Python exclusively with my last business (60 second laundry), and it was used at Campus Society.
I’ve also used a fair bit of Javascript too. I’m teaching Rails because it’s the right one for people to start on,
and it’s also the right choice for entrepreneurs, and it has a large amount of support & jobs available.

What’s your refund policy?

Refunds available any time before the start of the course! No questions asked.

Hope to see you at the course!

Will
