If you want to improve your sales copy skills, and are in need to know what's working NOW, I have a solution for you.

Airline Magazines.

I travel around the world on a fairly regular basis, and can't help but read the airline magazines.

Not because they are well written, but rather, as a solution to boredom.

As a world traveler now for over 20+ years, I see some of the same ads over and over again.

What would Gary Halbert then tell us?

Yes, they might be worth looking at. Maybe even studying.

Especially considering airline magazines ad cost a lot.

Those ads are written by the best, and tracked to death.

Probably worth looking at.

And here's the best part...

... you don't have to be flying to Paris or Rome or Los Angeles to read them.

You can find them online.

Here are some links:

The Magazine - Southwest: The Magazine - Southwest Airlines Newsroom

Nexos — Ink eMagazines

United Hemispheres Magazine | Stop and shop

Voyeur : June 15, Page 1

If I can get 5 people to reply to this post with your thoughts on this method, I'll share my favorite #1 ad that I've seen running now for over 25+ years.

Enjoy!

That's the hallmark of a well-performing ad. Thanks for the share!

Never heard this before that airline magazine ads were expensive to place.
As my Grandma would say, you live and you learn. Thanks for the share.

    Thanks, Adam.

Years ago, I used to do a lot of traveling.

I'd marvel at those ads. On the plane to pass the time, I'd pick one ad and I'd write it out by hand.

Then I got the chance to write an ad for a product that was going to be advertised in Skymall.

It was one of the top language courses at the the time. (No, not Rosetta Stone, but close.)

    It became a home run.

I don't know why, I really love catalog copy. I miss the DAK Catalog and Sharper Image.

    Here's my #4 favorite:

    iMirus Online Digital Reader
    iMirus Online Digital Reader
    iMirus Online Digital Reader

I pasted the same ad that appears in different issues; therefore, showing it's long lasting control

this is Bose ad with the headline:

"You'll love what you hear, and what you don't"

A variation of this ad has been running for years.

It's important to note that Bose started out as a direct mail/order company.

Through years of advertising they built a brand and then when nationwide with physical stores.

However, they made their start doing direct order sales copy

p.s. Interesting to note that Bose changed it's flagship ad in October 2013

    iMirus Online Digital Reader

and again in April 2014 to

My favorite airplane ad that had been running for 20+ is the Karass negotiating seminar, with the old headline, "In Business As in Life, You Don't Get What You Deserve, You Get What You Negotiate"

    Seminars

I'm having a bit of trouble finding that ad. Once I do, I'll post it!

I have their new ad, and will post that if I can't find the old one.

If any of you have it, please post it in the thread.

After going to their website, I've been retargeted and the ad is
      still the same theme...

        Ewen,

        it's not the full ad.

        I'll continue looking

        However, cool they retarget, huh?

        A simple yet effective tool.

        Regarding ads that work:

I think that is the main take away for young pups here: simple, effective copy works.

More than just a headline, you need a hook. A theme. A mission.

If we can nail that one, the rest is easier.

Yes, once we have nailed our theme by testing,
we can change the headlines, body and offer
          while being on theme.

Looks like Karass has locked down their winning theme
and stuck with it for decades.

I've written about testing themes and their importance.
A client friend did that recently and the winner was 10x
          more effective than the runner-up.

I've listed theme ideas and headlines which match the headlines
          also here...http://www.warriorforum.com/offline-...vertising.html

          Best,

Adam, how much do these airline ads cost? I'm not questioning you to be clear, just honestly curious. I'd never thought about this niche until now.

      $43,527 for a 1x print, full page.
      see page 15
      http://www.swamedia.com/media_storag..._Media_Kit.pdf

I'm sure there are unpublished rates for preferred clients and long term ones.

      however, you get the idea.

In other words, if one company is advertising a single product on multiple airlines, that product line is doing something right.

this article worth looking at as well:
