Helpful ideas for a subtitle?

Hey all, hopefully you can help me,

I'm making a site now called Mentor Mission. It's a series of interviews covering different areas of internet marketing, all oriented towards helping the beginner make money online...

Here's the premise:

I've heard that the quickest way to be successful is to find someone who's already successful and do what they're doing (I think Tellman Knudson told me that). So, I'm gathering these gurus of various areas of internet marketing and asking them to be a mentor on my series, telling how a beginner can be get into and be successful in their area of expertize (essentially to 'follow in their footsteps').

So here's where I need help: I'm getting a minisite designed for it, and I need a subtitle for the website. And I haven't thought of the perfect one yet, so I'd like to ask if anyone has any ideas?

So again, the site name is: Mentor Mission
-target audience: beginners (trying to make money online)
and above, there's the description of the site..

Any ideas? Thanks so much to everyone who contributes

-Tom

who need a subtitle: it has no real affect on the reader, if the title is catchy enough, people will read it. The only reason why the other forums have subtitles is to increase relevancy for the search engine.

Come on. Writing good copy begins with getting the users interest from the get go. Always is a subtitle important with a bare header!

Very much agreed, bceme. Especially when the title is just "Mentor Mission".

Granted, a more revealing title could have been in store, but I got halfway through the interview series before deciding that.. oh cruel fate haha.

So in this case, a subtitle is perhaps even more important than normal because without it, no one will know what the heck me site is. I'd rather not loose someone before they even get past my title..

          Seriously though...

But what about YOU. Are you following in your "gurus" shoes? How many of them got started interviewing gurus? And how many think that's an effective tactic today?

Yes I do think it's effective today, and I am in fact following in my guru's shoes.

This all started as me just trying to interview people for a book, I was going to compile all the transcriptions of the interviews into a physical book (which I've found is extremely non-profitable).

Tellman Knudson was the 3rd interview I did, and he said to drop the book because there's no money in that and create a teleseminar series and subtly promote the people's products through the interview. Have who I interview promote the series so I can monetize it while building a list. Awesome concept, proven to work (just check out the 13th module). Tellman made $800,000 his first year doing that, he called it List Crusade. It was what made him into the marketing figure he is today.

So that's what I did, and from then on I dubbed my series "Mentor Mission." He became my Mentor and I followed what he said to do, which so far has been amazing. Good thing too is that the whole basis for what I'm doing can be found in that one interview alone, if someone else were to happen across it in Mentor Mission. I eventually interviewed Cindy Battye (Soren Jordanen's Partner), whom I learned about membership sites and the power of membership sites, and my whole project has evolved from there. With a little creativity and restructuring, I combined the best things of both models to create one I think is better than the two individually.

So about me, yes I'm following in my guru's shoes. First it was Tellman, who gave me the initial idea of everything I'm doing, and then it evolved to include Cindy Battye, who gave me the ideas to take it to the next level.

And every single little thing I've done was solely from the interviews I'm putting into this series for free.

I'd have to say it's more than an effective tactic, because you're building relationships with the people you interview, which if you're in the IM niche means they're typically successful people. So far I'm a relatively no-name internet marketer, but I'm developing some amazing connections with people that are experiencing massive success. I'd say it's worth it just for that since many of us are on casual-talking basis and they help me out occasionally.

Lastly, think outside of IM. I think you're going too narrow, with the idea that it won't work in IM so it's not effective. If you go outside IM, it's even easier; I had my own reasons for staying in IM, which I tell you all about in Mentor Mission.

Thanks Dave and Aronya! You've been extremely helpful!

I was combining some advice from a few people, what do you all think of either of these two?

Mentor Mission- "blueprints for success from the top internet marketers"

      or

Mentor Mission- "step-by-step instructions from the top internet marketers"

either of those two capture what you think I'm going for?

      Thanks!

I have to say though that I find an inherent weakness with all this follow the guru stuff.

So much of marketing is novelty - being the first to do something or the first to do it that way. Yes Mentors and Gurus can teach some basic principles but when you are the 1200th person using the same technique it so often begins to dilute.

If you get caught up in this follow the leader thing soon you can barely come up with a unique idea that actually has the novelty to really spark.

I'd definitely agree with that. The purpose of what I'm doing is just to provide a place for people new to internet marketing to begin. I remember when I got started, I didn't know what to do or how to do it, and soon I was on 30 lists getting a ton of emails all day. So, this is designed to more or less provide a blueprint for beginners to start something, hopefully to put them on the path to make their first $1.

Yes methods can get diluted, and yes you'll have to think for yourself, but as with me- I saw a weakness in my initial idea, inspired by Tellman, and developed one of my own (but that incorporated things I learned throughout the series).

So yes, you'll have to think for yourself, but I want to provide a place to start for beginners that don't know what the heck to do. I have interviews that cover several different topics and areas, so you can listen to the interviews and decide which method you like the best, then pursue that one.

You don't have to follow everyone, nor should you, like a zombie or anything. You'll also have to be creative and develop ideas on your own. My site is just going to show beginners what's out there and help give a shove in the direction they decide to go. That's the goal at least.

Honestly, I just thought of what would have helped me when I was brand new, what would have given me the best start towards something. That's what this has become, I think it's pretty cool though. It would definitely have helped me if I was just starting out again, so in turn I also think it would help out other people. It's awesome content too, and it's all going into a free membership site, so there's really no down side. If you don't connect with anyone I feature on it or don't like what you hear (since it won't be for everyone), just click the back button or un-register I guess, no harm done. I don't doubt tho that someone will get a lot of mileage out of it, so even if I can just help that one person I'd still make the site..

On the "following the guru's" debate...

Here's what they all have that most people don't...

They have an understanding of marketing... They can communicate with their lists, JV partners, create products that sell, network to grow their businesses, etc.

They can either write great copy to sell their products, or they hire great copywriters.

They generally have pretty big marketing budgets, so when they do launch a product, they do it right.

They have the drive and ambition to try new things, sometimes they succeed, and if they don't they look at failures as a learning experience.

They also have an uncanny ability to lead the tribe instead of following the heard.

That's what makes a guru. Know how and hard work. (I hate the word "guru" by the way.)

Come up with good ideas, good products, good marketing strategies, build relationships, understand how to REALLY communicate, and you're on your way to "guru" status.

    Hey Tom,

First, I think your idea is fantastic.

And I think what people are going for is someone to take them by the hand and show them step by step how to succeed. The people you are going to interview or already have like Tellman Knudson have used proven methods and tactics to achieve their goals.

Why wouldn't someone want to learn from them?. They would.

A couple suggestions have been mentioned, I've kinda added on to them.

Mentor Mission- Step by step success secrets of the top Internet Marketers.

    Hope that helps,

Thanks a lot Bill, I think you best understand what I'm going for..

Everyone I've interviewed thus far (9 total) is massively successful, and personally I think everyone can learn at least something from them. I would definitely like to learn from them, and have so far, and if I have then I KNOW beginners can as well. That's why I'm so excited about this.

And thanks for your input on the initial prompt as well
