Above the Fold? Or do we now scroll?

It's been a very long time since I've been to the WF. Been so busy actually working! lol.

A question for the veterans here. When I started out, you put the good stuff above the fold. Throw it out there and then lead them down the page. But now I've got all these clients who what the cool looking pages where things pop up as you scroll down the page. It's annoying to me, but then again I'm way too deep to see websites as the consumer I'm targeting. At the moment, I'm going after owners/managers of car dealerships. Big ones. About to roll out an email campaign to a list of around 100k. Client loves their website (which is usually a flag in itself) and I've been called in to write these emails last minute. I had nothing to do with any of the other copy so far. They have an absolutely great product that will change the market. But no one is seeing it. Their website just isn't doing it for me, but they want these emails sent out in the next week or two, without touching the website.

Suggestions? The website is in the plans to be changed. But not before the emails. They've been using banner ads and have gotten TONS of clicks, but almost no conversions. I really believe it's the website. It's just blah.

Thanks!

I'm a bit confused about your post.

Your writing emails to owners of car dealerships but talking about scroll depth?

There are somewhere between 17 - 18K car dealerships in the US so is the list you are mailing to related to this number because 100K owners or managers sounds too large or too un-targeted.

If you are trying to convert from your email why would you send the traffic to a proven unconverting page o site?

Why not set up a specific landing page or phone room to handle enquiries and avoid the website if that is the issue in your eyes?

If a ton of traffic hasn't converted why would the messages you intent to send change that dynamic?

Maybe test a smaller segment of the list and the offer first.

Focus on that. You are being paid to bring targeted people to the site, what happens after that...is out of your hands.

You say; "I've been called in to write these emails last minute."

You can talk to them afterwards about why these people didn't stay. Make sure they have good analytics in place to use as ammo for when their results are dismal.

Meant to say 10,000. Not 100,000.

And I've thought about all of these things and know it's their crappy website. Talked them into a landing page and testing.

      Thanks
