The Interview Effect (How to guarantee you sound natural in your copy)

In copy…

We’re always striving to sound conversational, right?

We want to sound like we’re just chillin’ at the bar having a regular ‘ol talk about… well… whatever.

But when we put it down on electronic paper… it’s often difficult make your copy sound like a real frickin’ conversation…

Especially when you’re trying to keep continuity with your hook, branding and offer.

The harsh truth is…

If your copy sounds like WRITING, it’s pretty much destined to fall flat.

Because what’s the alternative — if your copy doesn’t FEEL natural?

It feels contrived, right?

It feels like you’re having a conversation NOBODY would REALLY have… you know… in reality.

Contrived copy is a sales pitch — poorly disguised by (the attempt at) realism and authenticity.

So what’s the solution?

How do you guarantee you can always tap into the way you really talk… and converse with people?

It’s easy.

I call it The Interview Effect.

Here’s what to do:

Have someone, like me, put together a set of questions that gets to the heart of what you do… what you offer… and how it benefits people.

It’s not 100% scripted; it’s just making sure you HIT certain points… in a certain way.

Because here’s the thing…

I know you care. You know you care. Duh, right?

But if the people you’re SHARING your product or service with don’t FEEL your authenticity…

They won’t RECEIVE the emotion you’re trying to convey.

In other words…

No connection is made.

Here’s something else…

I always tell my clients,

“Let’s BOTH acknowledge we know you want massive results. I mean, you’re paying me gobs of money… to make exponentially MORE money!

I get that.

But the way we achieve those numbers isn’t by worrying about them… or trying to act in a certain way to achieve them.

Nope. It’s being real. And just having a frickin’ conversation.

Because if we can get down the way you organically communicate; if we can get your story… and why your solution is the answer people have been looking for… magic happens.”

I urge you to make that same agreement with YOURSELF!

You could even do a Skype interview as your VSL.

How frickin’ awesome… and different… would THAT be?

Anyway…

Find someone to interview you. Prepare for it. Know what you need to cover… then let go… and talk the way you REALLY talk.

I promise you…

If you can do that…

You’ll make more money than you know what to do with.

This is a good idea and one a master copywriter friend of mine uses almost exclusively. So I know it works.

I, on the other hand, read my copy about a quadzillion times over and over again out loud. I try to get the voice and inflection right, and tweak the word choices and contractions to be just like I would naturally talk.

It takes a lot of time, but it seems to work for me.

I think that's what most of us individual self employed writers and developers aspire to...

    At least I do...

Casual speak with your market audience, being real.

And you did it, a touch of profanity and all.

I listened to the youtube video and was thrilled to get that info for free.

I rarely listen to hour long marketing talk these days but this one was good and entertaining.

A few people might not like it, but for others it's refreshing...

And to me it's all about working with people you can chat casually with, so maybe it's a good way to filter out the undesirables, right from the get-go.
