The first thing I'd advise you to do is read all the sticky's.

There is a mass of really useful free information and resources. That will help you get started, plus probably answer your question.

Knowledgeable as many are the people are on here, you'll as likely get a different answer from each one who replies to this post!

So this may sting a little, but...

We're supposed to help you when you won't help yourself?

That's a list of around 50 books. With a few quick Amazon searches, you'd have 5 in your hands by Friday.

When you combine that with the "How to Get Started" section of Joe's sticky, http://www.warriorforum.com/copywrit...pywriters.html, you have a great foundation for asking questions about things that are unclear.

Look, you better get familiar with research right now.

That's a large part of the job. In fact, it's most of the job.

Don't come to experienced people asking where to start. You might as well be asking how to get to the moon.

Do a little diving of your own. Ask questions once you've started educating yourself.

This isn't school and there is no syllabus. If you want it, go get it. And it's up to you to figure that part out.

We can and often do help with refining and getting better. But we can't start your career for you.

I recommend to my copy coaching students that they start with
The Ultimate Sales Letter by Dan Kennedy, but "How to Write a Good

For copywriting, I'd go with bob bly's "the copywriter's handbook". Workmanlike. Covers all the basics. No hype. A good foundation for whatever you'll learn further on.

I freely admit, my biggest weakness is SALES PAGE Copy writing. I think one should decide to either a) bite the bullet and learn to write good sales copy or b) just pay for it and out source it. If you want to learn it, find a simple SALES page the you like the LOOK and FEEL. Copy the WHOLE PAGE to your WORD DOC, and then, Line-by-line, paragraph-by-paragraph, RE-WRITE the ENTIRE page. By doing this, you will LEARN what is needed and become aware of the FLOW of the COPY. As they say, Practice makes Perfect!

The Ultimate Desktop Copy Coach by Clayton Makepeace.

It may seem overpriced (you can find copies on eBay, it is not for sale anymore) but it both a strategic and tactical approach to copywriting. Of course, you can get the same education by buying the top ten books on the topic but the course by Makepeace and Flores combines everything in an easy to follow and practical way.
