What would you call this?

In setting up a new web-based marketing "school," I am categorizing the courses available into three types:
- Video Courses
- Audio Courses (Audios plus Handouts)
- Text Courses

It's the third category whose name I need feedback on. What I mean is that these are courses where all the content can be read in PDFs. What would you call that, in contrast to audio and video courses?

PDF Courses?
Reading Courses?
Text Courses?
Or something else?

I want the name of this category to be clear and unambiguous. Thanks for your quick feedback!

  • Marcia,

To me, the most unambiguous term of the three is "Reading."

Even at this late date in the Internet's evolution, there are probably still people who don't know what a "PDF" is.

  • I don't know that I agree with Alex. While there may be some troglodytes left, I think "PDF" is a common enough term that it perfectly describes what they would be getting.

And just in case they need help, you could always add a one-line descriptor below the course options, couldn't you?

    • No. Video and audio courses contain plenty of content, too!

Thanks for your suggestion, all the same.

  • Written courses.

  • And would you want them for customers?

I'd go with Portable Document File (PDF).

PS. At some point a PDF might contain video and audio too.

  • Personally I wouldn't give it a "name"(in case it causes any confusion).

Instead I would explain it like this…

Prefer to read rather than watch or listen? - everything is available on PDF (beautifully designed, and fully indexed - click on the menu and voila you're on the page you want).
