PDF is the tried and true method to go. When I first started I used another
platform and some customers would complain about why I didn't use PDF.
I switched and never looked back.

PDF is the most common ebook format and it is easy to read on PC and on other devices. So I definitely choose this.

As the others already stated, PDFs are the way to go.

However, if you're going to publish your book to Kindle, Amazon advises you to have your book in a .doc/.docx or .html.

You can publish a Kindle e-book as a .pdf but there will most likely conversion issues.

"While we accept Portable Document Format (PDF) files for eBook conversion, PDF files contain special formatting (and sometimes images) which may not export well in the conversion process. It is difficult for optical character recognition systems like our KDP converter to interpret the embedded formatting and image placement.

Publishers have reported formatting and conversion issues when uploading PDF files, such as irregularly bolded text, irregular page breaks, inconsistent font sizes, inconsistent text flow, and missing or oversized images. If you'd like to use a PDF file to publish your book, please upload it and preview the converted file before you publish. If you see any issues, or the book doesn't look the way you want it to, we recommend converting your PDF to DOC format and following our Simplified Guide to Building a Kindle Book."

I would actually think a password protected wordpress page might be better if possible. Why? because you can update it at any second and add in more related information and affiliate links.

If possible, maybe you can embed the page in a desktop software. PDF is good, but it is static.

A e Book completely word press based? You would do the design and copy writing in a desktop software and than "convert" it to html or what is your approach?
Whats about steeling content? And the costumer you think they pay for a online only version?

      cheers

You could probably have someone design an ebook software that requires their password.
You don't have to convert it to HTML at all, you can just upload it to your blog in DOCx format and use a plugin to make it into wordpress page...

Or just write it in wordpress.

If the user is connected it would show you the online verision and if offline it would show the last version.

  • PDF is a catch-all solution.

Runs on most anything, just gotta be sure it's fixed up for bein' fully adaptive 'cos some pdfs don't re-jig themselves too well to fit smaller screens.

.epub format morphs real good, but only works on Apple stuff. Yucko.

.mobi is same deal, only for Kindle.

If you start out in Word you can use sumthin' like Calibre to render down into all 3 formats (along with .txt, .rtf, whatever you like).

Gotta make sure you edit with all the guts on view here 'cos stray code can bug out later with .mobi and make you look a real goof.

(Mike's link says it better'n me.)

Whatever you run with, be sure to check in with your pals to see if it'll run on their stuff.

PC, Mac, tab, Samsung, phone, iPad: check it runs good on every device you can before sendin' it out.

Agree PDF is the best all round tool...

I can also take a PDF and work it into a protected format that runs on Android, Windows, iPad and iPhone ePublications, or any browser supporting Flash. Video, Animation, Audio and Flash supported.

eBooks are secured from copying, they will need a key which you issue them. You choose the number of devices that your eBook can be installed on.

If your content is valuable I definitely recommend this, feel free to PM me for info..

PDF is my favorite. This is a very popular e-book format since software support for this format exists for a lot of devices.
