ya jus make the people buying thing.

    It's good life.
  • The shortest distance between a person reading a thing, and buying a thing.
  • Here's a place to start...

"copywriting," not "copy writing" ... "what it is," not "what it is."

Based on your writing, I'd define copywriting as something you'll be paying a lot of money to have someone else do for you.

    • Seth,

Let me preface my comment, I own many first editions in the copy, marketing and advertising writing realm. Just from reading those old volumes right on up to the current teachings our favorite word has gone through multiple transformations.

"Copy writing" "Copy-writing" and "Copywriting" are all correct. The first 2 versions I've found in advertising and copy writing books dating back to the late 1800's and into the early 1900's.

Clyde Bidell and Bruce Barton used the first two versions in some of their old writings. From what I've found Caples and Schwartz did, but primarily used the 3rd version.

Sometime around the late 1940's it became okay to combine the two as a compound word. Why? Who knows.

    • Real copywriting is a lot like real mayonnaise. Tastes great compared to the fake stuff (salad dressing).

  • Copywriting is salesmanship in print (whether on paper, online, on a teleprompter or on your mobile device) as opposed to face-to-face salesmanship. The job of the copywriter is to write the words that persuade the reader, watcher or listener to take a desired action -- whether that action is to buy a product, request a free report, donate to a worthy cause, or something else.

    Hope this helps!
    Len
