Good copywriting? Where can we learn to write like that?

The website link below shows some really good copywriting on the sales page.

dota2secrets dot com
infoproductsfromscratch dot com
quit-weed dot com

May I know where can we learn how to write like the sales page links above? Is it from Gary Halbert? Or John Carlton?

The headlines of this copy start of with... How To...

Any advice?

Thanks.

    • This was a great podcast. I highly recommend it and following Ray Edwards.
  • The copy is following a Gary Halbert style of writing so you may want to
study his stuff available for free from his newsletter. You may still need some
guidance along the way but at least you have an aim.

    • BTW, I'm not the "Ray Edwards" referred to above. Just in case you got
mixed up as a lot of people do, even though I use my picture in my profile.

  • I often read "The Gary Halbert" letters and also am reading Coppyblogger's arsenal of free ebooks, definitely recommend those options.

While I have found great pointers reading the 'Copywriters' section here on the WF, a lot of these seasoned writer's are a tough crowd to surf with, they'll skeg you with wit, and run you over with hard truths, so enter with caution... There's sharks in that ocean!

    • If you really want to learn copy writing then there is no substitute for doing.

Once you've read a few books, been on Halberts newsletter for a while etc.. Then take $200 and hone your skills in the real world.

      Here's how you do that.

1.Get a product that sells well in any niche you want.

      2. Get an A/B split test plugin.

      3. Write 2 sales letters for this product and post them with traffic split 50/50.

      4. Get a couple Bing coupons off BHW or fiverr or just use Bing or 7 search straightaway. Get 5 cent clicks that are good converting keywords. Test the traffic on the company's sales page to make sure your traffic converts first.

      5. Run the traffic at your split test get real data on your sales.

      6. Start making adjustments to one letter at a time seeing what produces better results.

      7. Keep tweaking them until you're far better than the sales letter of the company. 100% improvements are a good goal over their letter.

      8. Call the company and sell them your winning letter with the stats as proof for $25,000 and you're now a copywriter who's also just had his 1st job and been paid.

By the way. If you're a copy writer in need of more gigs, this will get you paid. Go take great products, follow the above steps and sell them a proven letter.

      Thank you, Patrick

  • Take the advice you are sure to get (as in this post)...

Write them out by hand. Start with info products one, then go to Google and search for similar sites...

and check clickbank, Amazon and even eBay (sold listings) to see what is actually being sold.

Then find 2 or 3 top performers and write out the promotions by hand.

This will help you write in this style you like.

  • You can get good at copywriting the same way you get good at any skill.

Practice every single day consistently for many hours
Have a mentor who knows his/her shit and will correct you, not sugar coat your work
Review competition's work who are doing better than you and study/improve on it
Find the great people in the area you want to get good at and read everything they've written

That's to get good - If you want to be GREAT, combine that with natural talent (debatable).
  • De con struct ads, promo's and websites.

    If you're pushed for time...

    Find an Ad you like.

And ask yourself - "Why do I like it?"

Then forget about you and ask - "Why would other people like it?"

And then the kicker - "Why would others not like it?"

Then the money shot - "How would I improve it?"

After the 29th* deconstruction you'll discover you've developed writing abilities you never imagined were possible.

    * results will vary - you may get a cognition on the 7th shot then again it may take 129 plus attempts
