I'm dyslectic

I love writing; I love telling stories and share my experience with others. I also love reading other people's experience and comment on them.

I just have one BIG problem; I'm dyslectic, it is not possible for me to write a line without any mistakes. Yes I can use a spelling corrector, but they don't take out all mistakes.
Now I know that there are many people who say they are dyslectic, but I'm able to make 10 mistakes in a line with just 9 words. This means I can forget about getting accepted for E-zine or any other serious article website.
And about proofreaders, well they charge me double......

Any suggestions how you would handle it?

  • Why not become a storyteller instead, someone who tells stories verbally for an audience? It's smarter to go with your strengths than to go into something where your every move comes with a handicap.

It sounds like you should not go into writing at all, at least not until you can afford to hire someone to edit everything you write.

    • This is the sweetest and most practical reply I read from this thread. In addition to what Marcia said, know your strengths and develop it.
  • You told your story very clear...so much so I didn't look
for or notice spelling or grammar mistakes.

Was writing this post a struggle for you?

  • Perhaps a Fiverr to transcribe?

Why write, when like Marcia says, you can talk. And transcribing is an old world way marketers quickly created written products.

    • That is a nice idea, don't know if it is for me, but I like the idea. Thanks

Writing is easy for me, I can write an 800 word article in 25 minutes. But then I read it and the "fun" starts. After I debugged my text with 2 spelling correctors, I still have mistakes in my text.
So if the text is for serious publishing I have to pay a proofreader.

That works for me, this year I spend around 1.000$ on Fiverr for proofreading. But it not always gives the result I hoped for.
  • Just find a poor college student and offer him/her a 12 pack of beer once in a while for editing things.

    • Great idea, if I would live in a country where people would speak English on a higher level. ))
