    Learn to Knit

You sit down with two needles and a ball of yarn. Oh-and a book about knitting. Two hours later, you've learned a lot of creatively colorful words - and produced two rows of raggedy garter stitch.

But you don't quit. Every morning and evening you grab those needles and yarn and spend an hour or so practising on that square. Okay, pentagon might be a better description?

At the end of a week, you notice that your stitches and rows look a bit more even. Those big honkin' holes that appear mysteriously somehow occur less often.

Hey, this might just work out!

You finish that first one-of-a-kind square, make a second one that is actually rectangle-shaped. Sew them together for your very own unique... potholder. Cool!

A glimmer of pride urges you on. A prettier color of yarn. A combination of knit and purl stitches blend into a delightful basket-weave sort of pattern. And you end up with a scarf for your favorite friend- soft and just the right color.

Sweaters follow - then Aran sweaters, full of artistic cables and fancy stitches. Then you go for the colors, Fair-Isle style.

What a wonderful world lies at your feet! If you can imagine it - you can find a way to create it and make it your very own!

Now think about this - isn't it the same development process for writers?

    Hope this helps,
    Dot

    Writing is a flower.

You can't make a flower grow.

You have to give it the right conditions, and let it grow.
