Hey fellow scribes--hope your holiday season is off to a great start...

Just wanted to throw this out there. It's a replay of a recent webinar I did on marketing yourself reactively, with my top 10 places to find copywriting gigs. One of my businesses includes helping other copywriters to find jobs, and these are places I search every day for new copywriting gigs. Some of them you'll know, but a few you might not. Check it out if you get a chance.

No opt in necessary. Just click, watch, and let me know what you think below. I also include 3 places to avoid. Probably inviting some flamage, but oh well...

Free Get Copywriting Clients Webinar

Thanks everyone--hope this helps!

JW

P.S. Share this on Facebook, Twitter, etc and then let me know if you do. I'll PM you a link to a bonus webinar replay with 2 quick tips on accelerating your copywriting job finding success.

This is a year old, the video contains some good ideas for both copywriters and content writers. Speaking of content writers, here is a free gift for you, please accept it and go away (I know you won't but hope does spring eternal).

It is a Facebook Group, one of several, but this will get you in the rabbit hole and this guy knows what he is doing, check him and his website out, The Content Marketing Lounge on Facebook and his website is colliermarketing dot com, Nathan Collier if you care to google.

This Facebook group and others like it will be far more valuable to YOU, than trying to post your content articles here at the copywriting forum.

Why is it a COPY writing forum? When Alan Says set this place up, it was for people who wanted to make money from the Internet and Marketing on it. The early days saw great success by those old school Direct Response Marketers who wrote copy which could sell stuff. It was quickly recognized by IM crowd as a "must have" skill, and early adapters, guys like Frank Kern and John Reese, used their COPY Writing skills to have great success, maybe even the first million dollar day (in sales) on the Internet, by one person doing IM.

Why this is not a content writing forum...because at the time, Content writing was just writing, a person who could write articles for magazines, or newspapers or journalists converted their writing skills to online skills and it exploded. Then the content mills spring up and all kinds of courses, classes and the Biz-Op schools of writing, which were offline for the last century, never a shortage of people wanting to write for a living...

These guys, like AWAI, wrote great copy making it sound like anyone with the ability to put pen to paper could rapidly become a 6 figure writer...and the race began.

Now, most professional COPY writers and even the published and professional writers have FLED this forum, especially after the change of ownership and the results of the Peter Principle which most corporations exhibit...but.

BUT, there are some of us still here, we want to help you. We want to see you succeed. We have answers for you, help even.

But, the tolerance has lowered for the recent rash of posting useless, even spurious articles about copywriting from people who don't even know what that is...

You have access, still, to people well established in the writing world, some remaining members have had over a dozen books published by mainstream publishers, several have hit the 6 and 7 figure marks with their copy writing skills.

But you have to meet us half way.

You will get several different opinions because our journeys have been different, we came to this via many different paths.

It would be great to see you ask questions and then question our responses rather than see you post the 3 Things Every Copywriter MUST Do...(Eat, Drink and Poop).

We can rebuild this forum, or it can go the way of the dusty trail, so, how about a refocus on COPY writing, AND you content writers can petition Freelancer for a new sub-forum...or we can all just ignore the trolls here, and let it become a ghost town as several forums of yesteryear have become.

I'm NOT going to feed the Trolls, let's starve them out, or NOT, we're all free to do our own thing, eh?

The times they are a changin' (Bob Dylan, 1964)

Just as true today as it was back then.

Discussion boards still have their place, but social media is where the action's at these days.

Sit around wishing things were like they used to be... or adapt.

    Each individual's choice.

    Alex

And BTW, the Warrior Forum Copywriting sub-forum was never "all that". Michel Fortin's discussion board was the place to be.

It may not have been all that, but it gave guys like YOU a chance to get established, a chance to get started.

Today, many think of you as a Copywriting "authority" due to your participation here Alex.

Sure, Fortin did a great job talking about Copy, but he was one of the first, today guys like Colin Theriot are building platforms as the "places to be"...

And it isn't about wishing anything. It is what it is. But you've done pretty well BECAUSE of the WF, so, the question which forum gave YOU the customers to build your business? And why can't this forum make a comeback...in a decade, maybe social media will have evolved back to forums.

Give us a little more than your usual "drive by" remarks and a little effort or just leave us alone.

  • I guess what is gowin' on here is the kinda shiftya see when hunnybees swoop their buzzola from pollensmash to pollensmash.

Allied also to how ants kinda kiss antennae with one another as they are huntin' for ANT STUFFS.

Plus, acourse, possibilitya genetic mutation, whereby previously rock solid insect-specific roolz flip over an' reveal a vulnerable noo underbelly, an' for a short time, the ants dig all things hexagonal over beeline-like straight lines, an' the hunnybees drop down outta the unergonomic air to stomp out an' burrow an' generate massesa irritation down evryone's frickin' pants.

Where we fix our involvement in mutable evolvement is not easy to figure an' certainly any hard an' fast rule ain't gonna last.

But for sure sum cosmic force is suckin' the life outta this kinda shebang for the mo — despite alla my attempts to generate facile excitement — an' we all gotta go with that for now.

Thing is, forums have been around since sumone thought, "hey, that would be a cool thing to do in the namea serious discussion, but cos I got a warped sensea humor I am gonna figure a word for it sounds moderately porno," an' most internet incarnationsa the forum idea got a formal edge to 'em.

Prolly social media is more non-forumly forumular right now, glitzin' out on easea networkin' cos alla the beesy antsy mutantpeeps are there, conjoinin' antennae on fluxa 2016, but mood an' form gonna switch an' twist, an' meetin' places for all discourse gonna flow where they go.

Way I see it, forums are essentially TOGA.

Wrinklesome wraps, uniform in their ubiquitousness, flap in winda change for sum communal purpose.

Social media is prolly more casual thong — individualistically delicious expressiona the gossamer veneer between inner life an' hellbent voyeur, via the mediuma mainly drivel.

As a princess, I would always wanna conduct myself with the necessary f*ckin' decorum, an' I figured gravitasa forums suited my hubristic logistics.

But 2017 may be another open vestibule for Moi.

Cut curt to 140 characters, I could juice out on poison, succinctominxo, tellya.

    But I digress.

Guess I figured a while back with WF how I had meandered myself before a horizon grayed out with once-legendaryness, but it is in my nature to tryta breathe regalia-rich life back into even the most bulbously inert toads.

Gonna mebbe spend enda 2016 pontificatin' to sum purpose 'bout where I wanna fire off, jus' in case I thinka sumthin' awesome.

I got candy, I got alcohol, I got pasta — an' I am restrainin' my Cumberbatch-hungry Dr Strange horses for at leasta nother week in the namea discipline an' diligence.

You said, "Cut curt to 140 characters,"
    you verbose horror!

    Get lost.

    Gordon,

You told content writers to "go away".

And now you're telling me what to post and what not to post.

As Dana Carvey (imitating Johnny Carson) would say, "That's weird stuff!"

Well yes I told content writers to go away from the copywriting forum, but I also suggested FL create a content writers forum, OR change the name of this one to Writing, and let it cover everything.

But you are right, and my recent attitude shows too much concern, too much caring and for that I'm sorry and will back off and keep my mouth shut too, or do the occasional two-three sentence drive-by post.

It is a public forum, and FL invites people from all over the world to come and participate, being seen as potential consumers of their products, and that is why they bought the place.

It is sad to see so much misinformation, bullshit and even they guy who doesn't know the difference between copy and content writing continue to post as an authority on all things freelance writer. But, hey, Caveat emptor.

Adults here, right? No one needs protection and every voice has the right to be heard, we participate by choice.

So, yes, I've gotten weird, but I am joining a 12 step program and the first step is to surrender to a higher power, so, FL gets to run the WF anyway they see fit.

I'm just going to drink the coffee and eat a donut, while trying to earn my first 30 day chip of WF sobriety.

        Good idea.

Since you have so much knowledge to share, have you considered joining several Facebook groups where it will be appreciated?

Here's how you could get INSTANT respect and credibility...

After you join a group, post a Gary Halbert story. Maybe about some conversation you two had... or about hanging out with him. Whatever.

Copywriters at all levels would take notice, and your future posts would be eagerly anticipated.

Actually did that. Most of Gary and my convos were more like, "Hey shitweaseal, give me a ride home, OK?"

Last one, just before he died. "You really are a dumbass!" (Him to me) followed by a click.

Gary actually is the one who got me to succumb to Ben Suarez wanting to hire me. Last time he was around here, Bond was a tyke.

And the problem, for me, would be they very well might become eagerly anticipated, then YIKES.
I'd just as soon harangue Warriors and be done with it.

I also post in Marlon's group, Theriot's, Kennedy and others, just not very often, it goes against my FLY LOW policy which has served me well, no reason to change now.

Although Gary was great, and Jay is good, and Dan is alrighty mighty...their mentors, like Harvey Brody, Joe Karbo and Melvin Powers had more personal impact on me.

PS. Just bustin your chops Alex, ain't no one left here to pick on.

            Yes, it's all good fun.

But I do feel like your experiences in the Brody-Karbo-Powers era would make great reading and serve as a useful historical record.

Up to writing a book on those days gone by?

but honestly, I don't see a market. It would probably be a vanity effort. And most of that history already exists in the sowpub forum archives. We are in the Kern-Reese-SaltyDroid era, and it is more interesting.

It took so long back then, to get results, make phone calls (expensive long distance) and there was ONE basic template, pretty much what Collier and Julius-Halerman did before them. A- send out letters. B-Run ads, newspapers/magazines.

TV got shot down for a decade after the early infomercials, from Cossman et al.

And then we get to the Internet. Pretty boring compared to today's exciting opportunity for content writers, where the blue sky is the limit.

But, sure, I'd answer historical questions, took me 50 years to learn it, as long as I sit in my rocking chair and can eat a cheeseburger.

              GordonJ

PS. One of the first encounters with Gary was at Kristee Products where he was wanting to do a mailing to their list.
