"Breaking The Time Barrier" Questions

Hello Warrior Forum...

This afternoon I read the FABULOUS eBook called "Breaking The Time Barrier"... you can find it here. It is 100% free... yet it changed my mindset like no paid book on the subject ever has.

Now... for those who have read it, I have some questions.

I am a copywriter but I have only ever done some very small time jobs. I am interested in taking on this model for my future efforts and expanding my service.

I consider my business to be "brand new", despite my limited experience. I have heard that approaching local companies with marketing services (especially copywriting) is a good way to start. But how does that work?

Do you just hunt around in the newspaper, looking for bad advertising?

Do you cold-call small businesses and offer to tweak their marketing for a percentage of what they make beyond their usual revenue?

And the main question... do you approach them with a value-based pricing model, or a flat percentage or fee (for the first few clients)?

Beyond those questions, do you know how to sell to business owners?

Money transferred to you won't happen until
you get that taken care of.

The e-book the OP is so excited about explains exactly "how to sell to business owners".

It describes value-based pricing and how to interact with the prospective client.

        Thanks Alex.

I did download it on my new smartphone
but haven't found a way to access it on my phone.

Ok, I had a quick read of the book.

It's about the philosophy of value based client relationships.

It doesn't go into the opening, qualifying
and closing of taking a stranger to a client...
another words, going out and getting the money.

What's your experience level in this area so
          I can match the guidance?

I have run two small time campaigns for non-profits. I did cold emailing and got a few sponsorships for each. Beyond that, I have no other sales experience.

In which case I recommend Selling-Local-Advertising-Insider-Secrets-ebook by Claude Whittacre as being the most relevant
for you, whether you are taking inbound calls or making outbound calls.

After I read this book... will I be in a position to start working and making money with local clients? I have gathered a lot of information, but I am struggling with the action taking stage.

I'm a fan of taking imperfect action rather than constantly striving for perfection.

                  1) perfection is impossible. You're going to **** up. You're going to step on toes. You're going to blow deals (hopefully not deadlines though - never blow deadlines). Welcome to the biz. Everyone goes through the stumbling stage, so you're in good company.

                  2) take the pressure off yourself by realizing you're ahead of the competition simply by acting when they're still studying. Use every interaction as a lesson, whether that experience was good or bad.

Bad experiences can teach you how to sell better/disqualify bad prospects/understand the value you bring/set your working terms.

Good experiences can teach you how to streamline processes/close more deals/demand more money/develop efficiencies.

If you're looking for permission to hang your shingle and be an expert, I'm officially giving it to you.

                  Merry Christmas!

May your learning curve be short and an easy climb.

I downloaded and started reading "Breaking the Time Barrier." I understand value-based pricing just fine (once bought a course on it by Harlan Kilstein), but have never really figured out how to actually sell my copywriting services based on those principles. I need a course or two on THAT!

Also just got Claude's book - have some of his others and like them. Hope that it offers strategies that will work for me.

At this rate, it'll take me a while to get through the threads...

So would you say it's good then?

The content... the hows and whys of value-based pricing... is excellent.

I don't like the way the material is presented. The reader must extract it from a very long story. I prefer a more traditional approach... presenting material like is done in a textbook. But that's me... different strokes for different folks.

If you're currently not using value-based pricing, the e-book is well worth a read.

You can use value-based pricing right out of the starting gate. Since you're new, I recommend that you hire an experienced copywriter to review your first few sales pieces before handing them over to your clients.
