  • Hey Chris,

    Unless permission to reproduce the above article was obtained, doing so is a copyright violation.

    • Hi Alex,

      At first, I thought so too.

      But when one goes to the article's website, right underneath the title, I noticed that Demian wants his article(s) shared on public platforms i.e. Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Google+ and Pinterest.

      Demian is asking the viewer to share his article. So where does the copyright infringement come into play?

      Because you bring up a great point I went to the Terms of Service section of the Rainmaker Digital site to view their position.

      Here is that link: Terms of Service

      25. NOTICE AND PROCEDURE FOR MAKING CLAIMS OF COPYRIGHT OR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY INFRINGEMENT

      Rainmaker Digital respects the intellectual property of others, and we ask our users to do the same. Rainmaker Digital may, in appropriate circumstances and at its discretion, disable and/or terminate the accounts of users who may be intentional or repeat infringers.

      If you believe that your work has been copied in a way that constitutes copyright infringement, or that your intellectual property rights have been otherwise violated, please provide Rainmaker Digital's IP agent the following information in a writing signed (either physically or digitally) by the owner of the copyright or other intellectual property interest or a person authorized to act on his or her behalf:

      a. a description of the copyrighted work or other intellectual property that you claim has been infringed;

      b. a description of where the material that you claim is infringing is located on the site;

      c. your address, telephone number, and email address;

      d. a statement by you that you have a good faith belief that the disputed use is not authorized by the intellectual property owner, its agent, or the law;

      e. a statement by you, made under penalty of perjury, that the above information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright or intellectual property owner or authorized to act on the copyright or intellectual property owner's behalf.

      You may give the above notice to Rainmaker Digital's IP agent:

      By mail:
      Rainmaker Digital
      6125 Luther Ln
      Box 286
      Dallas, TX 75225
      By email:
      support@copyblogger.com

      After reading that section it would have to be Demian who files any potential copyright infringement because he believes his work is being infringed upon.

      As in this one instance Chris is sharing a resource and directs the viewer via hyperlink to the article's website, not away from it. Chris also states he did not write the article nor takes credit for it.

      In this one instance I believe Chris wants to know from us writers, after reading the article, what method do we use and why.

      *****

      Chris to answer your question.

      For me it hinges on 2 things.
      1. What the client wants
      2. What the research reveals
      Once I know those two things then I decide which method I'll use.
