    Thank you.

Another golden Ray of light to add to the forum.

Nothing really new but I like how you explain the technique and smoothly illustrate it using an easy to digest video.

    Kind regards,

    Ozi

    • Currency is the ultimate currency, I guess.

An' news is also excitin' in terms of narrative because no-one knows what is gonna happen next.

      It is the ultimate cliffhanger.

We stand on the edge of a cliff waitin' for the ground to spill out into the future to where the next president gonna be, an' this is a naturally captivatin' prospect — a hook in the buff.

Capitalizin' on this abundance of present moment suspense is a neat trick, an' the copy introduces a sidekick for us to run with as we uncover what is essentially a subplot in the unfoldin' Trump story.

We never get to discover who is gonna be president, but our interest in that emergin' tale means we wanna know all kindsa stuff, an' I am reminded of how TV series' sumtimes run standalone filler episodes once the main arc is defined, or games have side quests.

Thing about side quests and sidekicks is how they often move center stage.

      Cheers spawns Frasier kinda thing.

We enter a story via one narrative arc an' emerge with a whole new story.

An' whatever hooks the two feels like more of an umbilical cord than anythin' with a sharp point pokin' out.

We got Frasier back in the day because we wanted him, only it was kinda accidental cos he never started out in 'pre-arrival' mode, he was jus' onea the cast.

Here, the offer is a cold-bloodedly proffered a la pre-emptive strike — delivered with the immediacy of 'news' but possessed of undeniably cunnin' 'olds'.

Usin' the news this way is kinda jumpin' on the bandwagon, only super fast, an' super up front.

It fools us into thinkin' Agora is reactin' to events jus' as we are — because who coulda known Trump would pull the plug on the debate? — an' this kinda hits on a subliminal trust deal right away as buyer an' seller collude in life's uncertainy.

Email (or whatever) drops, an' we are all witnessin' the news together — only insteada some tired old wagon draped in yesterday's colors rollin' into town, we got the whole deal beamin' LIVE.

Who wouldn't wanna watch a bandwagon bein' jumped in real time by a buncha Jedi knights, Grand Theft Auto audacity style?

        Thanks PB.

Cheers for a cheer from the past that really tweaked a bone that kinda had been fosillizing in my cerebral cortex.

The re-invention thing is really where the successful hang out unless they are the recalcitrant type who enjoy a G&T or something else in the secluded bars of the peaceful outer worlds.

Shame I find it hard to tune in sometimes.

    Thanks for sharing.

I agree, the news automatically peaks interest. Especially when you are sharing news that everyone under the sun has probably heard of. People will automatically identify with your story because they already feel like they know something.

Don't limit yourself to the news. Associate your writing with current events, the latest sports games (Super Bowl/World Series analogies), popular TV series and characters, the latest blockbuster movie and characters, etc. Show that you are relevant and are involved in popular culture, more than just reading the headlines.

The corollary to this, obviously, is that if you're going to incorporate any of these elements into your writing, make damn sure you actually know what you're talking about.

I recall back in the day when you were reading news.. in order to read news! Nowadays, everything is sensationalism and chaos. As if my life will end unless I read the latest edition.
