How To Create The Best Headlines

Headlines or titles are what attract the viewers to your website. The more intriguing the headline of your post, the more chances are that the viewer will click through to your website. It should be kept in mind that no matter how great your content is, the viewer might not read it just because the title or headline couldn't grasp his attention. On the other hand, your content might be of average quality, but if your headline or title is a good one, it can generate thousands or even millions of views.

So what makes for a great headline? How can you create headlines that turn random internet users into prospective followers of your website or your blog? In this article, you will get to know how you can create attractive headlines that not only gets you more views but also help you gain a steady fan base.

As stated on CopyBlogger, only about 20% of visitors decide to read the entire article or content based on the headline. The remaining 80% only look at the headline and move along. To get these visitors to stay on your website, you must create headlines that are so good that the viewer doesn't move on to another link.

Make it Relevant
The first thing you need to make sure of is that your headline should reflect the essence of your article. Your headline should be relevant to the theme of your article and must be short yet informative. Long headlines and titles tend not to make an impact on the viewers and search engines also tend to ignore the remainder of the headline on search pages which can lower the conversion rate.

Make it Interesting

Try starting your headlines with words like "How to... ", "Get the best..." "5 facts about...", "Little-known ways to..." etc. The more creative and intriguing your headlines are, the more they will create interest in the viewers.

Use Attractive Words

Use words like Tips, Tricks, Secrets, Quick, Facts, Ways, etc. in your headlines. These words attract the viewers and compel them to click on the link to know more.

Make Subheadings

Try to have headlines and as many subheadings in your article as possible. Viewers find it much easier to go through an article if the general flow of the article is broken by stylized fonts or images or infographics.

Keep Target Audience in Mind

Headlines also serve as a call to attention as that is the first thing the viewer reads. Keep your target audience in mind while writing a headline, so you know just how to attract them towards your article or website.

Make it Unique

Make your headline unique, informative and specific. Everyone is attracted towards uniqueness, and if your headline is unique, it will automatically separate your website from the rest of them.

Make it Simple

The headline of your post is the slogan for what it is that you are offering. Make it eye-catching, short and interesting. Make sure to use words that are easily understood by the general public as not many people have a vast vocabulary.

Use Power Words
Use power words in your headlines. Power words are words that grab the audiences' attention. Words like Amazing, Spectacular, Breathtaking, Stunning, Sensational, Daring, Eye-Opening, etc. are all power words that can be used to create catchy headlines.

Offer a Solution and Results

A headline should not just be words in a line. The structure of your headline can make a huge difference in the quality of your article and the popularity of your website online. Your headline should be based on the formula that it should:
- identify the problem
- offer a solution
- make a promise for results

Creating a concrete headline is a lot of hard work. But once you find the best words for your headline, they are bound to make every person click through to your website.

Sometimes making people laugh with totally irrelevant headlines can convert better.

Write something stupid that when they actually click through they see why you wrote the title.

'I Bought A Tiger And I'm Going To Open A Zoo'

    The main point of a headline that works now and always has is;

Offer a big promise to solve their laser targeted problem.

That's really what has tested the best for me time and time again over 30 years of copy writing.

    I use the following formula:

    1) Short (less than 65 characters)

    2) The sentence must begin with either a number (3, 5, 7, 10, 12), a verb ( discover, increase, create, compare, join, become, get, etc) or a question (why, what, when, who, where, how)

    3) Influential adjective or adverb ( free, new, instantly, secret, amazing, revolutionary, simple, easy, fast, effortlessly, miracle, suddenly, powerfull, etc)

    4) Keyword

    5) Promise (enticing for the targeted audience)

    It's simple and it works.

A good subheading or graphic can definitely take a nearly-lost reader and pull them right back in. Plenty of people will scroll through your page, doing little more than glancing at subheadings, graphics, etc, until something catches there eye enough to get them to slow down and read.
