How to make your blogs go viral.

Whether we want to admit it or not, we all want out blogs to go viral and be noticed globally.

Let's face it, if you're writing to an empty audience what's the real point of it all anyway, we want to get noticed and get the attention of our readers and influencers (and anyone else for that matter). There is no easy way, that's for sure however if you're new to the blogging world you can make it a little easier for yourself by firstly writing a well-rounded blog and then secondly knowing where to share it.

While it's not easy to find a perfect recipe for making your blog go viral, there are a few great ways to give it a shot so that you can increase your chances.

Let's wind it back a few steps; firstly you need your writing to be top notch, so you may want to brush up on some tips for how to craft a blog. While it may seem simple just to sit down and write, you need to have a topic, inspiration or a point for the blog. You need to make your posts so engaging that your reader can't wait for the next one and is excited to read your next one.

Tips for writing a great blog include:
Choose a topic - having a topic in mind before you start writing will give you some focus and hopefully channel your writing so you can develop something that gets your readers interested.

Write a title - If you can develop a working title this will give you even more direction as you develop the blog. It may even point you in the direction of your conclusion as sometimes the title will give away your point of view. You can tweak it later and it is not set in stone however it will provide a great starting point for your blog.

Create a catchy start - don't fluff about getting to the point, like most things we only have a very limited time to make a first impression and after the first line, your reader will usually make the decision if they want to continue or not. Making your point in the beginning line of the blog will captivate your audience and will give them a taste of your style in one brief sentence.

Get your point across - craft the blog so that there is a point and not just a waffling of your thoughts, whether you create lists of points or have some information to share ensure you make your point clearly and in a way that is simple to read.

Add a CTA to wrap it all up - at the end of a blog you should add in a CTA if you are trying to point people to your business or your service, add in some contact in and relevant information that ties all the information into why you are writing the blog.
Check your spelling and grammar - this one is so important as it is essential that you write blogs with grammar and spelling in mind. While it is fine to add in slang or abbreviations if this is relevant, bad spelling and grammar is a no-no. You should also consider if the post were written in UK English or US English.

Step away and leave it - after you write your blog, I would suggest leaving it for a few hours or even a day and going back to it to re-read it with a fresh set of eyes. Often you will be able to pick up plenty of information or errors when you check posts rather than quickly skimming through them after you have just written them. Leaving your post and then going back to it also provides the opportunity to add in more information with a fresh mind.
Ok, so you've done the hard work, and you've written a blog you're proud of, what next...

I'd say there are probably a couple more steps before the post is ready to be published. Firstly I would just check that you have enough keywords in your blog - this you can do by skimming through and also quickly checking with Google to ensure the popular search terms meet your keywords. Secondly, I would add in imagery if you think this is relevant, while you don't need massive amounts of pictures, sometimes adding in a few relevant ones will boost the look and feel of the blog and thirdly I would give the post a quick read again before you post (you'd be surprised how many small tweaks you can make to a blog).

Ways to get your blog out into cyberspace and in front of the most amount of potential readers include:
Your website - if you have a blog page and followers this is a first step of course. Share it on your website and alert your followers via email or however you usually alert them when a new blog is available.

Facebook
- if you have a Facebook page sharing on here will get to your audience, you can boost this with advertising if you have it as well.

Twitter - sharing the link on your Twitter feed will allow your followers to know you've got a new blog to share with the world.

LinkedIn - if you're a blogger with a professional niche market and write for the business end of town, you can share you blog on LinkedIn.

Google+ - Sharing on Google+ allows exposure if your followers are active in this space and you have a stack of followers.

Reddit - a platform for user-generated news links, sharing your blog on Reddit is a great way to submit content and get voted to the front page.
This would be a starting point for sharing blog posts; the next step is to get a little more strategic about sharing your posts and thinking outside the square.
I would also suggest considering referring your blog posts via answers on LinkedIn, Quora and Yahoo! Answers. Quora, in particular, is a fairly exciting platform that is quite a popular option.

As a final option you should always ensure you are self-promoting in as many ways as possible including via your email signature, updating any online profiles, adding posts to your blog, adding blog links to newsletters and even personally sharing your blog posts with colleagues who are bloggers or influencers in your niche in case they can cross-promote your blog.

It all comes down to using a range of strategies and not just expecting that when you write a blog, all your followers will flock directly to you and wait with bated breath for your next post. You do need to remain actively promoting your blog and your website to get as much exposure as possible.

Lots of fluff in here. Plus, I've seen pictures of cats licking themselves go viral. They didn't go viral because of the great writing that went into: My cat licking himself.

Still annoyed with the large number of almost useful articles. Don't know what I mean: see my earlier post on another thread. Yup, do the work.
