Why Do All Landing Pages Have To Look Alike?

Is it just me, or there are Warriors, who get extremely annoyed by look alike landing pages? I'm not talking (only) about design, but much more about the content itself. I have rewritten hundreds of landing pages, so far. Yes, you read it correctly. Rewriting not writing of all those landing pages was my job. I could only dream about writing a text for a landing page in my own style. Why? Well, because the clients were like, we need to follow this particular style/pattern, this is what our customers are used to get. Seriously?

You can literally change the product's name on some of these landing pages, and the scariest part is, no one is going to notice it. Scroll down baby and enjoy the ride. If you're asking me, but unfortunately you don't, I think that the best way of attracting people's attention is by offering them something fresh and unique. This way you can easily get lost in the endless sea of recycled landing pages.

One of my colleagues - a copywriter just like me, had an excellent explanation. The industry is paying, people are buying, we are writing, and no one is complaining. Right? So, why bother about it? Really, an excellent observation. Write as you're told or expected to do. You can't change the world of landing pages. I even tried to imagine myself walking in some of these customers' shoes. There's no way, you could possibly sell me a single thing with some of those landing pages. Yet, they keep popping up like mushrooms after rain. Have to go now, because there's one more landing page waiting to make our world be a beautiful place. Who invented those things in the first place?

    1) Your reaction to a sales page will be very different from that of an ordinary customer. You are a landing page's pro! When you see one, you study it carefully. You are aware of the page.

The typical customer does not read most of the sales pages because they do not interest him. When he reads one, he does not really read it, he scans it.. He is not aware of the page.

    2) Customers are fearful of spending their money and not getting results. They prefer a winning recipe, a recipe that has proven its value, rather than a new recipe. This is very similar to the behavior of Hollywood studios. We may not like it but it's human nature.

But I agree with you, I find that the landing pages are boring and unconvincing because they are too repetitive.

You made your point, my hat off. There are so many safe bet addicts, and we can't do a thing about it.

  • It is a weird loop you get when expectation always drives delivery.

Stability becomes stillness becomes stasis becomes stuck.

Wantin' that alla the time seems counterproductive to me.
