Copywright. TV show character quote.

Hi!

I am new in this website, so I don't know if this is the right way to ask my question, so excuse me in advance if I am doing it wrong.

Here is my question: Is it ok to use a famouse quote of a fictional character to name a website or as a tab in the website?

Thanks!

I'd move away from that Omar. Even if it is legal, the quote from the character is *their* brand. Meaning you would build a site on another person's brand.

I prefer to go with my own brand aka site name. Gives me more authenticity and branding mojo as my online momentum builds.

Personally I'd see nothing wrong with that... As Ryan says below though, it is their brand, but if its relavent to what you're trying to do then no problem.

This is not a copyright issue. It is one that falls under the trademark laws. If they have not trademarked the slogan, it is up for grabs. If they haven't trademarked it, I'd seriously consider what value it actually has.

If it means that much to you, then I would employ the suggestion of the trademarked slogan by Nike, "Just do it."

    Thank you.

    NEVER DO THAT. NEVER!

What will happen is you'll fly under the radar with whoever owns the brand. Then when you're finally doing good and draw attention to your site, the brand owner will shut you down. So, If it takes a year for you to start doing good sales, etc... then you've pretty much wasted a year.

...and that's If the brand owner is a nice person. Piss off a brand owner with money and a lawyer, well, good luck with that.

    Forget about it.

Naming a tab isn't as big a deal because you could always 301 redirect to something else later on but it will cause you a headache down the road If you have to make that change. If you care about SEO, that makes the redirect even more of an unnecessary headache.

Also keep in mind If you're an affiliate for the brand they can easily shut your affiliate account down and keep any money you've earned for violating their TOS.

Does this mean that I can't call my WSO, "DYN-O-MITE? Will JJ come after me? I don't think so. :-) Again, not unless he trademarked that - and that ain't easy.

Do a search for failed trademark registrations of 'words, phrases and sayings.' You'll be very surprised. Then go to the USPTO.gov website and read all about it. Interesting reading.

    Thank you.
