Copywriting for female customers

COPY WRITING

I've got a new venture going, and my data indicate that about 80% of the people clicking through to my sales page are women. I had no idea it would be like this, so I'm wondering if it would be worthwhile to rewrite the page, targeting it more toward female customers.

I remember the 6-minute abs guy saying once that he had two different pages, one for men and one for women. On the female page he used words like "belly" instead of "stomach", "toned" instead of "fit", etc. My page is a health supplement, but I'm wondering if there are any resources out there that talk about copywriting for female customers. If so, I'd appreciate some links.

You could check out the website of Lorrie Morgan ( redhotcopy. com )

She used to have a program called The She Factor Copywriting Bootcamp, specifically about writing copy, for selling to women.

Even if she doesn't have the course anymore, you can still get some good insight from her.

It's worth checking out.

I know the struggle that you mean. 99% of the copy that I write is directly for women - but when I have to write for men, it's so much harder. Technical ability and formulas and all that jazz aside, it's just difficult getting into the heads of the opposite sex.

It's not a resource or a guide as such, but this is what I find to be useful...

Dive deep in forums where women (in this case) are talking openly and honestly and candidly about their struggles with this particular issue. Search things like 'what's it like being an overweight woman?' and see what people have answered to that question. Preferably forums that are a little more anonymous than Facebook etc, where people are really happy to let loose.

Grab a pen and paper, and you can mine loads of gems for your copy.

The language they use, the exact words, and so on.

It's a lengthy process, but it'll give you the best insight into what that problem really looks like for your target group.

  That's an excellent suggestion. My product is a supplement that will basically eliminate canker sores, so I'm not sure that there are actually forums devoted to that particular issue, hahaha. But certainly a google search should turn up some good threads.

you need to learn which words they like or not
maybe ask for female friend to correct some of the copywrite

Since women account for 85% of all consumer purchases...including over 50% of all male products...why would you be surprised they're your primary visitors?

I would definitely recommend reworking the copy. The tone and pacing you would use for a female target audience is often different than what you'd use for men.
