Freelance copywriting platform - is there any to have a stable income?

I'm interested in a freelance job as a copywriter - educational topics, blog posts, articles etc. I've found a couple of those i.e. prowriterstime, they are offering up top 28$ per page, but maybe you can propose other ones? Thanks in advance

    Hi Gary!

I have actually found some work on a facebook group called the Cult of Copy Job Board.

There are many high paying clients on there, but the competition is high.

I've been able to find middle-paying content creation jobs there, too.

    Hope that helps!

    Thanks,

    Maxine

Do you think it's a good thing to offer videos from a paid course to someone for free?

If it were your course that was being ripped-off, would you be happy about that?

      Just sayin' . . . . . . .

    Yep Gary.

Like every niche online, when you release the doubt-fear concerning making money, you develop the freelance skills through practice, create the free content and generously promote other folks for months and years to develop lasting, full time income. For the bigger bucks you need to brand you; not just focus on some site and get work off of it. Nope. Practice, create, connect and as you GIVE in service so shall you RECEIVE in terms of money, yearly time frames being your focal point.

There are some people who have entrepreneurial enough to make money
from those boards. But they are typically a waste of resources. They
are designed to make the owners money, not you.

Most writers who make money from such platform use them to find
long-term clients who move away from the boards and deal with
them directly--which is frowned upon by the platform owners for
    obvious reasons.

If you want a stable income as a copywriter or a content writer....you need to develop your own stable of customers and contacts. I started with Upwork (when it was Elance) - was very choosy about who I worked for - developed repeat customers on the freelance site and then after one year (terms of the site) took those customers 'private'.

For almost three years I had a good full time income just from those clients and others THEY referred to me without having to look for work.. In my opinion, if you want a stable income from writing you have to work directly with your clients.

    I'd skip Fiverr altogether.

You can try to use other freelancer platforms to earn income such as Upwork, Freelancer website. On there, you can bid for the job and work through their platform.

Sure, freelance copywriters can write educational topics, blog posts, articles, but in IM terms, you would be a content writer. So be careful if you advertise in the copywriting sections of those platforms.

I was amazed to find 46,695 as the number posted at Upwork YESTERDAY as I searched for writers and copywriters. I went about 12 pages deep and still didn't find what I was looking for, so if you use those platforms, PLEASE, do something different which will set you apart.

Gordon, could you say more? Were you looking for something specialized?

Or did it seem everyone was touting the same brand of expertise?

    Or what?

Thanks Marcia, great questions. Let me give some brief (hard for me) details.

Upwork was just one of the freelance sites we visited for my research into this so-called GIG ECONOMY, which is the focus of my research, and although I've done pretty, pretty, pretty dang well with some of the gigs I've had, my opinion is...there is a better way.

And YOU, know what that is with your books, courses and Intellectual Property which is working for you when you are doing a consulting gig.

Anyhow, here is what I did. Started with Google. Searched for Upwork. #1 result was their ad. I hit the BROWSE FREELANCE TALENT link.

Which took me to Top Upwork Freelancers. I then hit the FILTERS and left everything at the default and in lower left corner hit the link:
      See All Catagories

Then the Writing and then the Copywriting, and today, I see 46,755 apparently added 60 in the last two days.

I tell all this so someone who is unfamilar with Uplance has a step by step process to see what I am talking about so we can work from the same page.

So, then I start browsing.Oh my. How do I find someone? Well, for me, hourly rate means nothing. Except, for research, I want to find the HIGHEST HOURLY rate I can find (500 an hour in first 10 pages).

At this point, I see a whole bunch of 35 to 95 an hour copywriters, an avg of about 55 dollars per hour.

And I see page after page of I'm here, I am, Trained by, If you want, and in this first 10 pages without filters, I don't see a single compelling PREOCCUPATIONAL INTERRUPTER.

As a shopper, OF COURSE I want blah, blah, blah. What can you do for ME? I don't care who trained you, YES, I expect error free writing (that's a sales point??)...and yada, yada, yada.

Where is the sizzlemanship, I'm shopping for something, and these people are sitting on the shelf begging me, "pick me, pick me, not the other one". I want the girl at the end of the isle selling a potato peeler convincing me it is the greatest must have tool ever invented. No one grabbed me by the throat, got NOR held my attention.

So, I thought maybe filter by higher priced, or most earned.

The filters I selected were 10k+ earned, and an hourly rate of 60 and above, their highest.

I got 440 results. Good, I thought, getting into REAL COPYWRITER territory.

Still NO sizzle. So, I looked for those who had earned the most. Some guy from Omaha had over $200,000.00 earned, and he charged 500 dollars per hour.

He JUMPED OFF THE PAGE to me. He actually has a "headline" not the I can, I will, If you want, etc. etc.

CONVERSION COPYWRITER WITH A PROVEN TRACK RECORD FOR SALES.

Doesn't that tell me more than all the I will, I can, "me, me, me" pitiful presentations?

It speaks directly to my reason for coming to Upwork, but it took too much digging, so, my point is, if you hang out a shingle which says you are a copywriter, then I expect you to use your skills to hook me as a client, because if you can't catch me, ready, willing and able to pay you...

how you gonna help me catch the prospects I'm after??

I actually use you as one of the examples of a Copywriter who has created an Information Empire. I don't think anyone has more books on the shelves (real books published by publishers) than you do.

You have a very clear voice, well targeted customers and a sterling reputation.

I went shopping. If Upwork is like the TARGET store, Freelancer the Amazon and Fiverr the Walmart of finding copywriting talent, I need to know where the ROBB Report is.

I just think copywriters should apply their skills they think they have, that's all.

That fellow is Danny Margulies. He is a spokesperson for Upwork and also a freelancer. He sells an Upwork course: "Secrets of a Six-Figure Upworker"

There is something else about the filters most do not know. An Upwork freelancer can block you from seeing their earnings. Which means they will not come up in the search which you performed, and possibly a talent you might be looking for, but can't find them on Upwork.

Also from your same search filter settings, as you described, some of the freelancers that come up are not copywriters. They appeared in the search because they may have done another job or two based on the search filtering criteria you selected.

Finally, some copywriting freelancers build their profile around the industry they serve. If you wanted to find a Healthcare Copywriter; those three words would provide you with different search results. When you search by industry you will find copywriters that are hidden from the general searches.

What I don't understand is why all the freelancers want to show off their earnings. Hourly rate, hours worked, and number of jobs I get. But what my clients pay me is no one elses business, but mine and the IRS.

Choosing freelancer as your job is really a great idea. You can surely go for this. But your content should be good enough for the client.

    Hi Gary!

Finding work as a freelancer can be difficult- have you tried uploading a profile onto Upwork? There are thousands of well-paid jobs on there, or there are other similar sites such as Fiverr and Freelancer.com

    Good luck!

    Felicity
