Basic questions about what freelance copywriters actually do

I'm currently reading books about copywriting /advertising and learning but a lot of these are older(complete with references to the type writer). I'm curious what an internet based freelance copywriter does other than use psychology to create copy, and place words.

What programs are used, how much design stuff do I have to know,is my finished product a complete ad in photoshop or do I just type the copy in word then the client goes to the designer to actually have the work done. Just curious about some of those gaps.

Services offered can range from just supplying copy to completely designing sales pages. That's entirely up to you.

If you're just starting-out, best to just concentrate of providing the absolute best copy you can. If you can do that your clients will have no problem having someone else do the next steps.

Pretty much all I do is write the words. I do have some minimal design skills, enough to create a very primitive facsimile in Word of the design I am thinking of, but I don't even bother with that most of the time.

    I do not know Photoshop.

P.S. If you're serious about wanting to be a freelance copywriter, it's a good idea to build good habits from the start, as in capitalizing the word "I" when referring to yourself. You never know when potential clients are looking on and disqualifying you for being sloppy.
