Pitch me the best idea you have...

I'll give you my best advice after 40 years with working with the biggest companies in the world. I'll tell you if it's a hit or miss. If it's a hit I'll tell you step by step how to proceed.

No charge.

I'll give you 5 days to let me know and then I'm gonna let this post expire.

    No private messages please.

Everything will be discussed on the forum.

If you have a sales letter, and I like your idea, I'll tell you what needs changed...I may even rewrite it for you. I want to make this a learning experience.

Why would anyone publicly reveal their best idea?

In my opinion, that would be pure stupidity.

If your idea is REALLY something, I'll waive my fee and make YOU an offer as a potential partner who can help make your initiative happen.

There is no fee and won't ever be one.

Did you read my post about no PM's?

I said everything will be discussed on the forum.

I don't need to ask for money.

P.S. when did you start talking normal? This is a shocker. I'm use to having to try and figure out what the heck you're trying to say...

      What's your best idea Alex?

You making a few million dollars a year?

I'm not talking about inventions that start a new revolution. I'm talking about ideas people have to sell a product or service.

I'm talking about things people are trying to sell now.

I see crap all the time on the internet and Facebook. I'll help them with that.

You ever watch Shark Tank? Why would anyone pitch an idea on there for the world to see? You ever copy even one of their ideas?

I'm not asking for you to come up with a brilliant idea Alex. Keep on offering your coaching service for a fee. I'll offer a free review of a plan.

Go up to the stickys at the top of the page and start clicking on those that offer copywriting services...

takes quite a lot of clicks before you even get a real live link. Get rich quick ideas to be a copywriter. Most come and go.

I actually resent your statement thinking I'm out to get someone's ideas.

I said in my post above I didn't want PM's.

I actually read your page before where you offer your services and had a few ideas on how you could make it better.

I guess to you though, any help is someone trying to steal your idea.

      Good luck with things.

And even though it greatly pains me, I'm gonna thank you for your feedback because that's how I am. I've dealt with bashers all my life...and believe me, I just want to go off on you with your remark. But thanks Alex for your feedback.

I didn't accuse you of trying to steal anything. I said "reveal publicly" not "reveal to max5ty".

There are plenty of marketers here on the Warrior Forum trolling the boards looking for a good idea they can steal and get to market first with.

In corporate America, which you claim to be so connected to, good ideas are considered trade secrets and vigorously protected.

There's not a whole lot of secrets in business anymore.

I get reports every day of startups pitching their idea looking for funding. It's pretty much public knowledge for anyone wanting the info.

There are also lists of startups that just got funded and the bright idea they're bringing to market.

Most aren't interested in an idea until it becomes successful by someone else. Take Uber, there's a lot of people now that wish they invested in it. When they were in their funding rounds, a lot of people thought the idea would never work.

Even if someone were to try and keep things under wraps, once it became successful it gets knocked off rather quickly anyway. Even if there's a patent, most know a minor change is all that's needed to legally steal the idea.

I can go on my Facebook at any given time and see at least 10 different ads for webinars. All I have to do is knock them off. It's all in the marketing and I'm confident I can out market most. But I don't have the time or energy to deal with little projects.

Like I said previously, all you have to do is go to the top of this forum and browse through the copywriters for hire. Very few links work anymore. All the great ideas evidently failed.

Most ideas fail simply because of bad marketing. If you're afraid an idea is gonna get knocked off, it usually means you think someone else will market it better.

          Thanks for your feedback.

(The windup) With a nursery full of beautiful creative babies, the best one, would be the crib I stand over now. So,

(The PITCH) New Copywriting school. I want to open a new school for Copywriters.

    Bullet Point Details:
    -
    • $497
      -12 Week Course
-GUARANTEED a 500 dollar job first month after graduation or double the tuition refund.

I have a Rolodex, like I'm sure you do, I don't want the work. But I'd like to keep the contacts alive. So, find some copywriters who can "carry on", would be worth it...maybe give the ones with the least chance of fitting in, total refund at 12 weeks.

Cherry pick the best students for ongoing work.

So, can I (we?) do this?

    GordonJ

PS The first assignment would be to write a promotion (although NOT for a pen, HA!).

OH, AND...THERE are now thousands of people wanting to be copywriters, #1 problem? They don't know how to get started, find their first client, get their first paid gig...all part of the curriculum. I'll find their first gig for them.

Yes this is possible and already being done. Although I'm not sure if they offer a guarantee like you would. Most successful copywriters have copy cubs that work for them.

There was actually a guy that ran an agency for copywriters. He'd get them work. I think his son is doing it now. Back in the day he was promoting big names. Kinda like a talent agency that gets models and actors work...but it was for copywriters.

So, I took you up on your offer, without snark, malice and without seizing another thread to proselytize a belief...but I'll start there, at least RyanB is consistent, and his mantra isn't far off from general advice, his: "serve humanity"...is not too much of a stretch from Halbert's starving crowd and hamburger stand idea.

Your best advice to me, then was some guy had a son and started an agency? With all due respect, a bit underwhelming.

But, because you were encouraging, "Yes this is possible"...I went ahead and did it, so thanks Max for the motivation.

I'll figure the step by step out on my own. Hope you get others to take you up on your sincere offer, but chances are, after 5 days, we won't be reading very much helpful info. Just my take.

        GordonJ

PS. Copywriting/Content writing is one of the HOTTEST careers being touted these days and new schools of copywriting are springing up like weeds in the flower bed, and so far, I haven't found a single one (going over 300 deep on Google) which guarantees a student a gig which will return their tuition to them.

Imagine Harvard. Guaranteeing a grad a 500k job their first year out. I wonder how many copywriters are carrying their own kind of "student debt" and still can't get work?

Guess I'm not understanding what you're wanting me to say.

There are tons of courses on copywriting.

Almost every successful copywriter has copy cubs that work for them.

I mentioned the guy that represented copywriters cause it sounded like that's what your plan was. Find copywriters work.

I guess the only difference you're doing than say Lampropoulos is you're offering a guarantee up front. Those that work under Lampropoulos build a portfolio. Plus they can use him as a reference. I would imagine when they write under him they get some sort of compensation?

Personally, I don't have the time or patience to do an idea like you're doing. I can't see how it would be that profitable. But I would guess you're looking for that gem that can help you sell your products?...which could make it profitable for you. Or I assume you'll guide them through their first jobs and you'll make the bigger share of the profits?

$500 seems pretty low for a 3-month course. I'd add a zero to it, especially since you're guaranteeing them work which gives them a portfolio and their foot in the door with contacts.

          Thanks for your feedback.

Don't have any pitches or sales copy for you to review, but I'd love to hear your opinion on what the best copywriting review process you've been associated with.

My organization doesn't really use the Peer Review method as much anymore, but we do have a weekly call with a group of copywriters that does some informal critique.

We normally use the CUBB critique method (we add an extra B for bad) and that seems to be working for them.

I run all operations in the business, so I attend copywriting meetings multiple times each week, so I'd appreciate your thoughts or ideas on the best (or most beneficial) review process you've been a part of in your career.

No 1 idea is groundbreaking M BUT......a helpful idea backed with a clear vision, with an intent to serve humanity, building momentum because the idea is generously shared with a big network of trusted friends, said friendships built thru genuine 1 to 1 engagements....this is how things take off.

Even big ideas that come to fruition tend to be backed by scarcity, fear and resistance, leading to all sorts of problems.

Well, truth to that. And thanks Alex for picking that up, and here is something you might relate to too.

Even though my students showed rapid improvement (got results), a year or two later some of them had defaulted back to old ways and habits.

Might that not be like copywriters, who get results, but may wander back to their roots, whomever that may be and don't continue getting results.

It reminds me of Maxwell Maltz and his motivation in trying to understand why his successful cosmetic surgeries didn't give the people a boost of confidence? Maybe, be it golf, copywriting, or a lot of life...there is a natural default to a low self-image??? I don't know.

And yes, it did make me a better teacher. (Although one not well liked by PGA pros).

I think the customized swing and being disliked by PGA pros could work as a very good angle if you played it up more.

I'm thinking along the lines of Bud Weckesser's famous headline, "Atlanta Housewife Investigated And Almost Arrested For Losing 73 Pounds". Something that lifts you above the competition.

I once offered a guarantee like this for a copywriting training program, and I found that the guarantee lowered the quality of the applicants by a huge factor.

Of course I delivered on the guarantee where applicable, but I dropped it as soon as I realized what was happening, and then I saw the quality of the applicants rise again.

It appears that the guarantee attracted people who (for reasons that weren't immediately apparent) were not as strong trainees as those who signed up without a guarantee.

    Surprising but true.

    Okay here it goes....

A business that archives the life of old people.

"You know Grandpa and Grandma are getting old and wouldn't it be nice if we had their life story and family tree, etc."

You go and ask them questions, transcribe a book, do a family tree, take some video. Basically have a package families can buy where they get 10 books and DVD's, thumb drives, whatever.

Essentially a biography for people who the only one who cares would be their families.

    What do you think?

I think it's a great idea...especially at the local level. The idea has a ton of emotional impact that can be used when marketing right. The reason I say I think the real winner is at the local level is because...

when I read your post, I was scratching my head thinking I'd heard of an engineer from YouTube that had started something like this.

I did some quick research and found it. He did a round of funding and raised something like $170,000.00. It sounds close to your idea.

I'm the last one to ever tell anyone that if somethings already been done, they can't do it themselves. I looked over his site and my conclusion is that it would be a money maker at the local level where you could actually get out in the community and offer your own plan that you would implement for your client. I think the local level would be far more appealing to most people. And would give you enough income to make it worthwhile.

I'd probably give each client a website with videos, stories, audio, pictures, etc. Then I'd also sell them a small metal tag with a QR code engraved on it so they could place it on their loved one's tombstone. Anyone visiting their grave could click the QR code and relive memories of their loved one. I"m pretty sure there aren't a lot of people wandering through cemeteries wanting to know the life story of the person buried there, but it would be another emotional thing for the family.

On a side note: QR codes are making a comeback. It's no longer necessary to download an app to read a QR code. Phone makers now include the ability into their phones. I know on a droid you turn your camera on...hold it over a QR code while you're holding the home key and it opens a link. iPhone has the same technology but I'd have to google it to see how you use it on an iPhone. Just another selling point when pitching a QR code.

So yes, I think on the local level you'd have a winner.

      Anyways, here's his site:

      Thanks for your post.

Essentially a biography for people who the only one who cares would be their families.

      What do you think?
In two weeks, I'll be attending my 50th class reunion. Class of 1968, Cuyahoga Falls High School. So what?

YOU will find many grannies and grandpas there, and maybe some READY TO BUY customers for your service.

Now check this out. My library used to have a history room, when they remodeled a couple of years ago they donated that collection to the Falls Historical Society, about a mile away in its own building.

I bet your local historical society or library might be the perfect place to host an ARCHIVE of local history. So as you are making copies for the family, you can also say a copy will be donated to the history, where it will live forever.

I love going there looking at old pics and reading stories, if they had some DVD I could watch or check out, I'd be a user.

See, you will be creating a HISTORY of a person, a place a time, and along with all the family, maybe their high school, college or work associates would like a copy too. Think of ways to expand your markets.

My HS Class had about 1,000 in it. Baby boomers. There are people, even in my home room of about 50, that I never ever met. I look forward to listening to some of their stories.

So, you could also, since you would be doing it for families, find those schools about a year out from their 50th or 25th reunion, and offer to make a video, you skype some of the class, get a lot of stories, put a couple dozen people on it, and follow it up with a reunion DVD, so you have two products for them, one done for the reunion, and one done of the reunion itself. Just need a camera, some software (and how to use it) and some time and MARKETING.

The thing about reunions is, in a couple of weeks, you'd have a couple of hundred old farts and you could pitch them all at once, see?

I think it is a good idea, let us know if you pursue it, ok?

Jus' wanna say, prolly the coolest thing 'bout any idea is its capacity to deliver succor.

Gotta figure we got a whole buncha stories playin' out rn -- but I guess as pitcher types we gotta figure ... who gonna catch the ball an' run with the lifestyle level-up?

Who got an eye for story?

(Theriot is dishin' simple story stuffs over on Culta Copy ... an' it is key humdinger territory -- bcs without narrative lifestyle progression bigged sweet to Time's forever perplexed goobers an' seekers , what frickin' use is an idea anyways?)

So ima repost sum drawin' I did a while back -- referencin' sumthin' GordonJ said 'bout the potential incendiarilismo exists between anywan' got sumthin' an' anywan needs what the Got Sumthin' Person got.

(Zero improvement in my personal stylin' btw.)

tbh hindsight suggests we could mebbe switch out the cat for a bunny or leopard, but the deal on ideas prolly always the same --

procreative loft + unmet need = desire to catch whatevah is flyin' around in the ether kinda sounds like the ticket rn.

That don't mean we gotta breed 'em all cruel in no underground LAPIN FRICKIN' DUNGEON -- prolly there be an ethicaler wayta get the bunnies out front to evrywan who could benefit from their intrinsic loveliness.

For sure I got friends could mebbe help out in this killa initiative on the traino front.

Wow, I like the idea! (could be the vodka talking, not sure)

Could we do a couple tweaks to it though?

I met a guy in the early 80's that was in this type of work (true story) he made a frickin fortune...

I was at the El Nivel in Mexico City.

      Drinking a Tequila with Sangrita.

      Was a Friday night...

(heard they closed the place last year)

anyways, was sitting at the bar talking to a guy when some gringo jumped up and started shooting the place up. Guess he was...I'll tell you about that another time...

so the guy I was talking to was telling me this story about how he was into the whole rabbit thing. Actually, he called them bunnies.

Said he used to be a copywriter with Esquire and when he asked for a $5 dollar raise, they turned him down so he decided to go out and start his own gig...

funny thing, he was so into the rabbit thing they even named an endangered species of rabbits that live down somewhere in Florida after him.

      So anyways...

He borrowed $8000 bucks and started a magazine all about bunnies. He named it after some car company that had gone belly up. "Playboy" if I remember right.

Crazy as it sounds, the guy turned the magazine into a fortune. Even had a big private jet and all...and lots of bunnies all around his mansion.

      He had a hella idea.

So I'm thinking if you're open to a couple ideas on how to make this better, I'm in.

I think the whole bunny thing has a ton of potential.

In the Game of Thrones, we learn the Hound prefers chicken over rabbit. Today, even WholeFoods got into the act. Food or pets?

Actually, food, pelt or pets. Very versatile animal, and some decent sized markets as you will find in this report:
          https://bit.ly/2NpVxEb

And this thought from THE BUNNY GUY:
          https://bit.ly/2PIFZxc

My sister had a licensed preschool day care in her house, and a bunny was part of that for 9 years. When started young, they can be litter box trained, get used to people, do tricks and are very good with kids (even hamsters bite more often).

As a food, a bit gamey for my adult tastes, but as the youngest in the group, I rarely got to shoot, but always had to field dress them. And there are conflicting ways, based on the use of the pelts. Rabbits on Bud Riggs farm were wild and got to be about 25 to 30 pounds and were the frequent targets of both coyotes and hawks.

They apparently are the third largest group of pets after dogs and cats.

They are also used, and bought, for research purposes.

So, if pets are the market, Princess, consider all the accessories, like huts, custom made litter boxes, little bunny beds. A pet rabbit should be around people from day one, held, and made to feel safe. Now my sister had a cat, and they got along very well, because they were raised together, some of the cutest pics you'll ever see are the bunny and the cat snuggle up with one my toddler nephews.

She let hers wander the house. Some prefer to hutch them when they are not at home.

Search Google images for bunny hutches. Something cheap, lightweight and ez to make are PVC hutches.

I think these images, might suggest to you a decent PROFIT CENTER which includes the little snuggle bunnies and their homes.

          Good luck.

          GordonJ

PS. If for food, or wear...NO HORMONES, free range, along with a cookbook, How to Serve Bunnies, might do the trick. If selling to researchers, find the buyers first, as all good marketers do.

    Hi Max5ty,

I know your offer is long expired, but I was hoping I could get you (and maybe some of my long time pals lurking in the shadows) to take a look my big idea and maybe help me out.

I'm working on an app. It's a productivity timer and project management app called Project Time Machines.

There will be a free version, which I am working on now, and in a few months I intend to launch a paid version (PTM Pro, between $5-10 per mo.) via Kickstarter.

If you want to have a look, below is a link to a non-working prototype of the free version.

    https://marvelapp-live.storage.googl...8024317_v3.zip

It's clunky to navigate without me giving you a guided tour, but if you click around a bit, I think you should get the idea.

Today I signed a contract with a developer and paid a deposit, so things are getting real. It's time to start selling.

    So... Here's the plan...

Above are all the things I intend to start working on (or rather, hire a copywriter to start working on) so that in 3-4 months, I'll be prepared to launch the Kickstarter campaign for PTM Pro (which the above project cards will be a feature of) to a 4 or 5 figure list of users of the free version.

The plan primarily focuses on having affiliates promote the free version to their lists, and then they'll get paid once the paid version launches. I also intend to target publications who feature productivity apps to get them to feature mine.

But I'd like to know how you would do it.

The completed free app should be available for download in about 60 days. An early beta version should hopefully be ready for download in about 3-4 weeks, where I can invite early users to test it out, provide feedback and bug reports.

By the time the completed free version is in use, I will have all the PTM Pro features designed and ready to show, and ready to sell via Kickstarter, which will fund further development.

So, how would you go about introducing the app to the market and prepare for a record breaking Kickstarter campaign? I appreciate any ideas or guidance.

    Thanks much!

      Couple quick things...

first, congratulations on your new project.

      Second, I'd look into producthunt.com.

Most new startup ideas advertise there now. It will give you an idea of how well the market is open to your idea, plus you can get some good feedback. Some projects are listed as coming soon...others are open for early beta testing etc. Once you have your product on the site, they send notice to their thousands of subscribers...gives you a good "quick start" since a lot of their base is in the tech markets and of course are tech savvy.

Also, my own personal opinion...I wouldn't wait to start the Kickstarter Campaign. I'm not sure of all the features of your app, but whether or not the market wants it or needs it of course is the big question.

There are sites where you can do app mockups to show examples of your idea...I think screencube.co is one of them. There are also sites where you can do a video of your app mockup to show what you have in mind. Some Kickstarter Campaigns (as I'm sure you know) will use mockups to showcase their idea before the actual product has been finished.

As we all are painfully aware, new products can be "our baby", but the market isn't ready or doesn't care about them sometimes...which is why I'd look for funding before going too far with the idea. I'm in no way saying you have a bad idea, just suggesting you test the market before spending too much time or money.

Not saying Kickstarter is the "know all" for everything good...but it does have loads of people who are looking to invest in new ideas and products.

I've always been of the mindset to fail fast when trying something. Find out quick if it's going to work or not before spending way too much time and energy on something that only I thought was the greatest thing to come along in years.

Hopefully others will give you some feedback also.

    Thanks Max.

And thanks for the heads-up on producthunt.com. This looks like it could be hugely helpful to me. Golden nugget right there.

As to doing a Kickstarter now as opposed to later, I've thought about this.

Launching a Kickstarter now means I've got to sell people on my idea for an app.

I've got to convince total strangers to put down real cash, now, on the promise that I'll deliver them a cool app in a few months.

    I think that's a hard sell.

Definitely harder than if I come to Kickstarter with an already large group of happy, loyal users of a free version of the app.

I have the funding to get the free version built (and marketed), so I'm gonna build it and try to get it into a lot of hands. And then I'm gonna have a good ol' fashioned product launch.

Will the market want or need it?

I am a target user, and I think so.

Most Warriors I think are target users too, so we should find out pretty quickly if I'll fail fast or not once I start promoting it here.

The free version is a great product. It's a timer you use while working on your project.

You enter the amount of time you intend to work without breaks or interruption, you can enter a line or two of what you intend to work on, and then you hit start, and you work, focused, until the timer goes off.

If you have to take a break, you hit pause, and a second timer keeps track of how long you're taking breaks for. You can also enter detail about why you're taking a break if you wish.

When you're done working, you enter a sentence or two about what you accomplished and maybe what you intend to work on next. Enter as much or little detail as you like.

You can also enter a grade, or score for your performance if you'd like to keep track. I like to keep notes on if I smoked weed or not, and then see how my performance grades vary (pro tip: weed doesn't help).

There's also a section to add notes about "Roadblocks", or particular challenges you might have come across or overcome while working on your project.

So, each time you work, you get a complete recording of how long you worked, how long you spent goofing off, what specifically you worked on, what you intend to work on next, how well you performed, and what factors might be affecting your performance.

Each one of these blocks of time (I call them Operations, or Ops) is saved, and you can then, from a summary screen, go back and review any individual Op you've completed.

So, as you continue to work on your project, you are building and recording a step-by-step blueprint, detailing literally to the second, how long each and every step of your project takes, as well as the biggest challenges you might have faced or overcome.

This is not only helpful for reviewing and improving your own performance, but if you're a coach or product creator, this can be very helpful for guiding students.

As you record your progress, Project Time Machines becomes your daily journal, able to capture every detail of your experience as you work on your project.

I've tried several times in my life to keep a journal, and never have been able to do it for more than a few days.

But using a prototype of my app, I've been journaling my progress on the development of this app almost every day I work, for well over a year now.

My developer has agreed to use the app to record his progress as well, so I will be able to document how an app gets made once the coding begins. I expect when I go on to develop my next app, this information will be useful.

Project Time Machines also keeps track and will let you know how many days it's been since you've last worked on your project. This little feature alone is a powerful motivator to help keep a person working and a project moving.

When I do drift away from my project for a few days (months) as I tend to do, I can tell you from experience, having a recording of where I left off when I last worked is incredibly useful when it's time to jump back in.

The app also lets you enter a Project Goal and a Goal Date, which you'll see every time you use the app. I used to write my goal on my bathroom mirror and saw it twice a day. Now I can see it ever time I look at my phone.

A feature of the paid version of the app will automatically calculate your Goal Date based on the Actions and Time Estimates you enter on your Project Cards (similar to what I posted previously), and your goal date will automatically readjust based on the time you work (or don't), giving you a constantly accurate, to-the-day date you will reach your goal.

But that's a feature of the paid version. I'll get to the paid version in a sec.

Before I do, I just want to tell you what I think the best feature of the free app is.

For the incredible amount of information you get about your progress and performance on the projects you work on, Project Time Machines requires:

    No Setup
    No Upkeep
    No Maintenance

You turn it on, enter how long you're going to work, enter what you're going to work on, and GO! Just work on your project.

When you're done working, enter a few lines about what you did and what's next.

That's it. Nothing else to do. If you're working on your project, there is no reason to not use Project Time Machines as you work.

Unlike other productivity systems that require weekly upkeep and daily habits and massive setups...

Project Time Machines takes literally seconds to use, and in return gives you information, motivation and accountability like no other product on the market.

I believe I can reach the market for this free app, and I am confident I can get them to try it out (my plan for doing so is posted previously, but I'm open to suggestions).

And once I build myself a small army of loyal followers, I will unleash upon them (via Kickstarter)...

    PTM Pro

    PTM Pro adds:

Project Cards, which you'll use to create a Project Plan.

Each Project Card has three different views.

    1. A Summary View, which gives you a rooftop view of your progress for each step of your project - How much time you've worked, time remaining, goal date, project size, average grade, etc.

    2. An Actions View (shown in my previous post). This view shows every step you need to take and how long you estimate each should take, for this specific Project Card. You're also able to record an Estimated Budget and Total $ Spent.

    3. A Completed Ops view - this is the screen (also included in the free version) that shows all the work you've done on this particular Project Card and lets you drill down to review the specific detail for each Completed Op.

Project Cards are tacked to a Project Plan board, and can be organized (dragged and dropped) into columns, divided however the user wishes.

I like to organize them into TO DO | DOING | DONE

If this list structure or these kinds of Project Cards seems familiar to you, then I'm guessing (hoping) you're familiar with the Agile or Scrum methodology. If you're not familiar, please Google "who uses scrum".

Project Time Machines is, as far as I can find, by far the best, easiest to use, easiest to understand digital implementation of Scrum in existence.

    So there's that.

    Plus...

One of the key elements of Scrum is the Scrum Team. Scrum teaches that to use the method effectively, you should be on a team of between 3 and 9 people.

This kinda bummed me out when I was first learning about Scrum. Because unless or until I'm outsourcing something, I tend to work alone.

Well... Project Time Machines helps with that problem, and I intend to show the public how through a short blog series titled, "Scrum-for-One".

But PTM Pro works great with teams, too!

With PTM Pro, you can join (or lead) a Private Squad.

Are you working on a type of project that a bunch of other people are working on too? Maybe you're trying to launch a blog, or get traffic to a site, or you've got an app you want to create.

Join a Squad over at the private forums we'll have set up, and you can share your progress, help and get help from others working from the same Project Plan.

Again, if you're a coach or product creator, this will be a fantastic way to guide your students, monitor their progress and identify where they're getting stuck (or bailing out).

Plus, did I mention you can download completed Project Plans from other members, or share your Project Plans with others?

And with PTM Pro, you'll be able to save as many different Project Plans as you like. (The Project Plan features will be added to the free version of Project Time Machines, but you can only keep one active Project Plan at a time).

    So, that's PTM Pro.

I think it's got Kickstarter written all over it.

And if you know Kickstarter, you know they love their stretch goals and multi-level purchase options.

Just so happens, Project Time Machines also has versions and features for PTM Teams and PTM Enterprise, for those organizations with internal teams who could use such a product (did you google "who uses scrum"?)

So, now that you know all of the features and the potential market, and knowing that the free app is currently being built, how would you go about building that small, loyal army of users who will follow you to the Kickstarter campaign?

Thanks again for having a look!

      Hi Ewen,

      No, I haven't.

But since you ask... (there must be at least 20 people still checking in on this forum, right?)

      Dear Warriors,

May I ask you a few questions?
      • Are you currently working on a money-making project (or one you hope will be) of your own - meaning, not for a boss or as part of your job?

      • Does your project require that you work at your computer for at least an hour a day, if you expect to make any progress?

      • Do you use, or have you used in the past any kind of productivity tool or system to help improve your performance, such as a timer or the Pomodoro technique, or Getting Things Done, a Bullet Journal, 7 Habits, etc.?

If you've answered "Yes" to any or all ove the above, may I ask you just a few more questions about your project and your work habits?
      • If you think back to the work you did last week, do you know exactly how much time you've spent on your project? Do you know how many total hours you've invested in your project over the last few months or the last year?

Would it be helpful to have an app that could tell you this information, with total accuracy, at a glance?

      • Of all the hours you spent at your computer working on your project, what percentage of that time would you say you were fully focused and engaged in your work?

And what percentage of your "working" time was spent on breaks or getting distracted, either grabbing a snack, or replying to a text, or wandering off to check out a link in the blog post you were just reading, or to check in on your favorite forum, etc.?

Would it be helpful to see, at a glance, for any given day, or overall, exactly how much time you've spent working fully focused and productive, and how much time you've lost to goofing off (and see just what you were doing during that lost time)?

Would it also be helpful if the same app giving you this information promised to help increase your productive time and greatly reduce your wasted time?

      • When you work on your project, do you keep a set schedule for the days and hours you work? Or is your time spent a bit more erratic, working a few hours one day, a few less the next, maybe skipping a day or two, or twenty, here and there?

If you're like me and tend to drift away from your project from time to time (sometimes for a very extended period of time), would you find it helpful, and perhaps motivating, to see each time you looked at your phone, exactly how many days it's been since you've last worked on your project?

      • If you've been away from your project for any length of time, would it be helpful to you to have as a reminder, a recording of exactly what steps you took the last time you worked, and detail about what you need to work on next, so you could quickly jump back in?

      • Would it be helpful to you to be able to look back over the course of your project and see every step, every action you've taken on any given day, and see exactly how long each step took you, and have a recording of any exceptional challenges you may have encountered or overcome along the way? You could then use this information to help you improve if you repeat this process, you could share this info with a coach or teacher so they can better monitor your progress, or you can share this info as a blueprint to help others
      .
Would you be interested in trying out an app that promises to give you all of the above, if the app were totally free, AND, it promises to be truly effortless to use!

Unlike systems like 7 Habits or a Bullet Journal or Brendon Burchard's new High Performance Planner, this app requires ZERO setup, ZERO maintenance, ZERO new habits!

You basically turn on the app when you're about to start working, spend less than a minute jotting a few notes about the work you're doing, and turn it off when you're done. That's it!

And in return, you'll get back more easy to access, useful, usable information than all those other systems combined!

Would you be willing to try out such an app?

Thanks for your feedback and help!

  • tbh biggest problem you got is the solootion blitzkrieg currently boomin' offa the productivity app market.

I seen Timers ... To Do Lists ... Motivators -- an' more.

An' I guess what plenty people do is head over to the most comprehensive suite on offer or mix & match individyool specialist apps.

Most phones or tabs are self-evolvin' WIPs -- conduitloads of apps helpin' whatevah needs to happen kinda happen.

So if'n your app is a keeper, gotta figure always how you in an app swarm -- in which case, what you got that is un-uninstallable?

If'n you an accessory -- kept in action bcs some (but not all) thingsya offer -- then what are your essential features?

Thing to watch for is the language definin' the landmarks an' processes powered up by your app -- an' not try too hard to superimpose no kinda system on nowan.

Thing is, your app is essentially utilitarian -- frees people up to get on an' do stuff.

I see 'project cards' ima wondrin' why I gotta shuffle through alla that stuff to get at what I want.

Worst part for Moi is ... time management so often reveals the extent of my ineptitood.

Like I SHEDYOOL IN 24 hours to figure how Jamie Oliver fixes a 20 minute meal in under 15 minutes.

An' when I boned up sufficiently to schlop in 20 minutes cookin' time between my life as a writer person beyond compare an' a Cosmos-wide magnet for all things monstrously klutzoid ... natchrlly I carbonize the f*cker anyways.

      Thanks, Princess!

I don't see this as a problem. I've checked out the competition, with their hundreds of thousands of downloads and their large number of rave reviews.

I find this very encouraging. Because my app is better than what's available, and it has every potential to top the competition in the app store.

And honestly, it's not much of a blitzkrieg of competition in the productivity app market. I haven't seen the list of competitors change much at all over the last year. I expect I will be a refreshing and welcome new entry to the market.

Hopefully my last post of questions answered these questions.

The Project Cards are a feature of the paid version. I get that not everyone wants this, but I think many will, and will be willing to pay for it.

Ask the Warriors around here who are looking to build their IM Empire, what's their PLAN? Do they have one written down? Is it complete? Can someone who knows what they're doing review the plan, fill in the blanks and improve it?

The Project Cards give them this. And it gives it to them using a Project Planing system that's been proven so effective, that it's used by small teams of people working on big projects at companies like Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Yahoo, Adobe, etc.

I think that should make my app attractive not only to individual IM'ers, but also maybe people working on small teams at companies like Google, Microsoft, Facebook... (We'll see. I'm looking forward to discussing this with my eventual copywriter).

This is exactly why I need an app like this. I spend so much time playing with my lizard, I sometimes forget to work on my project!

Why do I feel like I'm trying so hard to convince you all that my product doesn't suck?

I haven't been around here long enough that you don't trust I can make a good product for a good market?

I was really hoping we could have a discussion on how to go about selling this thing. Wouldn't that be more fun and interesting?

I started off by saying my plan was to:
    • Get the product made (which I can afford to do), so you can see for yourself it doesn't suck.
    • Get a lot of people to use it quickly (which I can afford to do) by having affiliates tell their lists to check out this cool, useful, free app.
    • Get more people using it by having blogs and tech publications review or write about the app.
    • Promote it through social media ads.
    • Once the free app is bug free and has a good, happy user base, I will launch a Kickstarter campaign, again using affiliates, to promote the paid version (monthly recurring payments) to individuals and corporations.

As absolutely none of the paid version of the product needs to be created before the Kickstarter campaign, outside of concept drawings and descriptions of what the new app will do, we can promise to deliver an absolutely amazing product. If we reach our funding goals, we will be able to deliver that product.

    That's my plan.

    How would you do it?

I would never say that it might suck upon completion, but I read your posts more than once and couldn't see where I would ever personally find a use for it. That doesn't mean there isn't one, just that, I guess, people that work like me are not your intended audience.

If you believe in it, just put it out there and let the marketplace decide. If it were a year ago and you were asking for good input, you'd possibly have stood a chance of actually getting something you might consider valuable and be able to use.

      Now? Have you looked around here, lately? Just sayin' . . . . . . . . .

That's the thing. I didn't come here looking for input on how to make my product better.

I'm looking for advice from Copywriters on how to sell it.

Sorry. My mistake. I guess I needed a 3rd read-through or a 2nd cup of joe. I missed that, completely. You'd thnk that by posting in this forum I might have figured that out. But, no!

Hmmmmm. Advice? As in 'for free?' :-) I'll be most interested in seeing how you fare with that. Like I said, different times.

      Rob,

You know what you want to do, what else are you looking for? Here is what I might do, but it may not be what you want, and are going to do, fair enough?

Since Kickstarter is the end game for your launch, I'd go to all the Crowd Funded sites and search for productivity apps, time management apps, like

anything which was funded. I couldn't find any, but hardly did anything exhaustive.

Who or what do you see as your competition, you mentioned "they" haven't done anything in the last year, who is the top dog in your space.

I did see WALKER at Kickstarter, that as of today has 342 backers and has raised 4200 bux, which exceeded it's goal.

HOW much do you plan to raise at Kickstarter?

So, first step was to search for signs of success with crowd funding for apps, pretty scarce out there.

Then I googled top time management and productivity apps, all kinds of lists of those guys. A FORBE'S article lists these as their top 5 picks:

      THINGS
      RESCUE TIME
      FRECKLE

Those are paid and/or subscriptions, like your plan calls for.

Then there are the 1001 others, Clear, Workflow, Wunderlist, Timely, Trello, etc., etc. and so on ad infinitum.

So my PLAN would be to find a market first, it seems to be what successful copywriters and marketers do, or at least it gives them a leg up to know exactly who and what.

Research would then go in a backward chain from the Goal of using Kickstarter as a fund raiser and marketing vehicle to the beginning.

Which you are actively doing. Again, I don't see what you want from us, you know what you want to do and have a plan.

As a copy person, I'd work hard on my TAG line, or one sentence description of the product, you see in the future a subscription service for your app, so it has to be

      A) FOUND in the app stores, or online when people are searching, of course PAID Google ads will take care of that, and maybe PAID Facebook ads too.

      B) You must catch the attention and Interrest of your Target market, and it has to be SIMPLE, AND QUICK to understand, as you can see here, you're confusing...too much info, too many screens, makes your app seem complicated.

Can you describe it in a single sentence, and a big benefit as to why anyone would want it? If that is what you are looking for, then maybe we stand a chance of being helpful.

      C) It has to compete with other options. It has to work.

Very few micro time management tools are given much value, because most users lack the discipline to push the buttons. Heck, time planners with paper and pen are still a multi million dollar business.

As you know, I'm not your target, I don't use apps, of any kind.

I do use calendars, and time sheets. But your market is the app user who wants to get control of their time and has GOALS.

So, in trying to help you, write a simple, easy to understand short, pithy promotion for your end project, and then we may be able to assist, probably not. But you know this routine already.

      End Result---Backward Chain----Plan of Action.

I'd sell it as the MIRACLE CURE for time wasting.

    Hi Gordon,

Thanks for your post, and sorry I haven't replied. You're right, I haven't been clear on what I am expecting to get help with.

In about 8 weeks or so, I should have my app ready to show to the world.

What I could use help with is solidifying a plan to get 20,000 targeted users to download and try my free app within 60 days of it being released on the app store.

The plan I came up with was to try to get affiliates to email their lists, and to try and get tech publications to write about my app. But this is the only plan I've come up with, and I don't know how realistic it is to think I can get 20,000 users by doing this, nor have I thought of an alternative plan that sounds better.

Assuming my app is received favorably by the market and I have a copywriter who can sell it (let's call it a MIRACLE CURE for time wasting and for not quitting), where do you feel would be the best places promote it?

I've got the Product and Prospect worked out. I need help with the Promotion and Media.

What is in it for the affiliates to do an email? Why would they? What is in it for them? Are you in contact currently with either affiliates with lists or tech publications?

Eight weeks puts you in Feb. there abouts, I don't think it is too early to be reaching out, to see what kind of response you will get from affiliates, are these people currently offering apps in their programs?

Really, I have no idea, but 20,000 sounds like a lot of people to get to do something, I think you need to find industry influencers, those with big lists, or followers, maybe pick a few Facebook sites with over 20k, or Youtube channels, and try to find the 20k "users" all at once. An endorsement from INFLUENCE or "guru" might be worth pursuing. Especially one in the goal setting/time management arena.

      Thanks for clarifying.
