A powerful copywriting tip from the show, Cosmos

I recently finished watching the Cosmos TV show about space, the earth, and science, both the old 1980's one, and the more recent 2014 one.

I learned a powerful copywriting tip from this show that isn't done nearly as well in other shows.

Notice how seamlessly they transition from one idea to the next. If you're interested in the subject of the show, it's so difficult to stop watching it mid-episode. You have to virtually PEEL yourself away with much difficulty.

They present so many different, unrelated ideas in each episode, and yet, unless you look for it, you don't see where the transition is happening. One idea is linked to the next.

I'm currently watching Planet Earth, and I see how they try to do the same thing to keep viewers engaged, but it isn't nearly as effective as how they do it on Cosmos.

I think having a seamless transition between ideas and between paragraphs is an important thing to do when writing any sort of copy.

    This may be the absolute, ultimate example of apples and oranges that I have ever encountered. I rarely do face-palms, but . . . . . . . . . .

Seamless transitions are difficult - many times read copy i'd settle for a transition that made sense and could be followed....For years, the music from Cosmos was my go-to relaxation recording.

What's the problem with transitions? Here are a few starting with a Gary Halbert classic:

    Here's why...
    By the way...
    Quick story...
    Did you know...
    And that's not all...
    But wait I'm not done...
    You wouldn't believe it but...

    Hope they help
