Just a thought...

You said you've watched a gazillion VSL's - and seem to be a dash unimpressed.

(not always a great joy to be trapped in an endless spiel for hours sometimes feels like weeks... I've often muttered - "will you please get to the point now - and stop it with all the repetitive pseudo psychology"... )

So, are you sure a VSL would appeal to your possibly "high browish analytical IT" audience?

If so - then just use the whiteboard with the lightening fast hand.

Assuming it's not completely knackered by now - and can still write stunning wow factor copy.

P.S. In the wonderful world of copywriting sadly it's not the way or the medium you like - it's the way and the medium your esteemed customers like.

My only exception to this is Postcards and Flyers...

Because I really, really like them - (after ink and parchment scrolls - they became the world's first true and phenomenally successful advertising medium).

After countless billions upon billions of them - many say much more successful now.

Because with good to great to ace copy and an irresistible offer - thankfully a goodly highly profitable volume of specially targeted prospectos respond - and it's difficult to bin them without reading the "this is of great interest to you" wording.

For those who don't - and have somehow managed to deliberately not sneak a glance - and being enticed into the copy I haven't wasted much of their valuable time.

But... I can hear you say - "Surely this would never, ever work for the highly sophisticated IT audience - would they ever dane to read a low tech Postcard?"

Chances are at one time or another they have.

And... a small test to a selected 100, 500, 1000 plus companies would tell you.

Make absolutely sure the copy and offer is astonishingly good - with of course a link to your website which further stuns and amazes them with the wonders of your service/product.

(at a fraction of the cost of a VSL)

Have read none of the comments to your post but I'll say this...

If you've waited months and months doing research I doubt you'll succeed.

Get an idea...

Put it out there...

learn from the feedback.

Biggest mistake I see every single day is people trying to get everything right.

You will never know till you start.

Fail quick. Learn quick. Learning quick is not asking everyone else what works.

You can spend months bringing something to market only to find it bombs.

Take what you have and get it out today.

You'll learn more than all the advice you get from all the pundits.

I've seen several marketers across a wide variety of niches still using the white background/black text style VSLs.

I'd also wager a guess that they aren't as tired in the IT niche as they are in the MMO/Biz Opp niche.

With these two things in mind I'd recommend you give it a shot.

Track and test everything.

You've got nothing to lose. However, constantly reviewing ad copy and agonizing over the details isn't going to make you any money. So take some action on this.
