Premeditated Diztraction.

In a world full of Attention Deficit Disorder (real or imagined)...and instant distractions while surfing the Net, and in spite of hundreds of people now teaching copywriting...with tens of thousands of new copywriters a year entering the game...

it is all formulas, templates, fill in the blanks...storytelling, the Hero's Journey, and all that jazz...

There is a lot less THOUGHT going into copy today and probably because they aren't taught to think.

So, I'll call this PREMEDITATED Diztraction, the use of brain neuron, click-whirr, RAS bypassing, reptile brain targeting to get results, without boring the bejesus out of your reader. OR

Monkeys without money can't buy bananas. So, find the ones with the money, and the hungry ones at that, and get whatever you want, quickly, easily and almost effortlessly.

Or as John Prine noted (rip, missed greatly)

"you can climb the highest mountain,
touch the moon and stars above
old Faithful's just a fountain"

And the rest is history...

    they aren't taught to think.

....and if they did find a few thoughts roaming around in their brain matter, they haven't been taught to organize those thoughts.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

Good thing too. For those of us who choose to extract money from their wallets. Either by high praised manipulation of the copy gods or simply by being the dancing monkey next to the organ grinder.

We love a little rope-a-dope, a sleight of mouth intentioned malaprop, a look, up in the sky it's a bird, a plane SPLAT...oh it was a bird.

Why do these copywriters, newbies, have such trouble finding clients? Isn't selling yourself like, job one?

Thankyou for your stunning post Gordon.

You see, GPT-3 could never have produced your piece of art, not in a million years - and ain't that the point - everything from "fill in the blanks" to "Funnel scripts" can never be programmed to weave in and out, conjuring metaphors from thin air, snake charming mis-spellings and embedding them into un-grammar that all reads so silky smooth and makes you laugh then feel loss all within the space of 1.5 sentences

It's like Jimmy Rabbit's old fella said in the Commitments "Everything's shite since Roy Orbison died"

    Good day fine people,
