It can take years to learn copywriting and it's not for everyone.

Hey there! It's good that you know what you want. And yes, you're absolutely right, the increasing of free resources is a blessing and a curse at the same time, there are great information but without a structured path, it's really hard to know what should be assimilated.

First, you have to learn the timeless copy principles: AIDA, PAS, 4Ps; second, study the greats like Gary Halbert, Eugene Schwartz by reading some classic books...

Also, one thing you should keep in mind, clients hire specialists, not general copywriters.
You have to pick one medium and deepen your knowledge about it.
Here are the options :
_Email copywriting (for business, newsletter, SaaS)
_Landing page copywriting (for startups, course creators)
_Ad copywriting (Meta/TikTok/Google Ads)
_Social copywriting (Twitter/X, LinkedIn, short-form posts)

OK. Let me start with intent, and some history...the TV show MADMEN, was about Madison Ave. COPYWRITERS. This was once known as the East Coast style. Then guys like Joe Karbo, Melvin Powers, and Gary Halbert had the WEST coast style, which was more hype and hyperbole, with the sole intent of selling something from the ad.

The fact of copywriting as a profession falls mostly in between, and I've known many six figure copywriters who never wrote either way, some were catalog copy folks and some were brand ad writers.

So, first thing I would ask you is; what is your REAL intent? To excel at copy writing probably does require a specialist slant, and some TIME (like a lot of it) to excel.

As for the most effective approach to mastering copy, here is a shortcut for you: know what you want your TARGET to do. What are you asking your audience to do, to REact or to RESPOND to your stimuli? This is the essence of good copy; evoking the response you want.

And if you accept the premise of Stimulus/Response as the foundation of good copy writing (and you should), then there has to be a PRE stimulus set up, right?

What happens BEFORE YOUR target comes in contact with your copy?

And this is where most would be or wanna be copy writers fail to grasp; it isn't about using magic words to hypnotize a subject to do as told...as so many copy teachers suggest...it is about understanding your target (client, consumer, customer) and what they are preoccupied with WHEN THEY INTERSECT with your copy.

So, what is your real intent regarding learning to write copy? Who will you be serving, who will PAY you, and why, and a whole bunch of other considerations.

There's no other way.

Every modern copywriting course or book just says the same thing in different words.

Yes, they were written decades ago, but, they still relate to the human race and what motivates them to buy.

This is a basic answer...but tells you everything you need to know to get started.

i felt the same way like 3 months ago

watched all the yt vids, took a couple free courses, even used ai to spit out copy but it never hit like the real stuff i'd see in ads that made me stop scrollin

what finally clicked was realizin it's not just about words it's about how it lands. i started breakin down how ppl post on reddit, twitter, email, not what they teach in courses but how they really talk. felt way more natural

someone shared this underground doc called (Edited by Moderator) with me wasn't even a course just this raw breakdown of how ppl post like ghosts, trigger reactions, and slide into conversions without feelin scammy

it helped more than all the 7 figure swipe file stuff

but fr tho, write daily, dissect what hooks you, and try to sound like a person not a page. that's what matters now

Ahh, for decades I've been seeking, searching and digging for the ultimate "copywriting secret."

Jessica from her post above may have found it or most of it.

I haven't been so fortunate, dozens of books, courses and seminars were the only way I got a level of enlightenment.

But I did discover one magical key that opens so many doors with rooms full of revenues.

The words: headline, body copy, the close as well as scarcity, the right audience etc, etc, etc are all very important.

But the offer is absolutely crucial.


Or the whole shebang can fall flat on its ass.

And no harm in bunging in a decent discount and super duper bonuses as well - (providing of course they buy before a set date).

It is not big deal to learn copyright; it is all about pratice makes the man perfect. Use chatgpt and mix with your idea by observing the competition. This way you can quickly learn copywriting.

You can Start with mastering timeless principles, write daily, study winning copy, and test real-world projects. You can Use AI as a brainstorming partner not a crutch. Consistent practice + feedback = real growth.

Well, to get people to pay you.

First of all learn the craft of copywriting - you can pick and choose from all the above advice (also read highly rated selling and negotiation books).

And then aim for clients who you most want to work with.


Write a magnificent, well researched, irresistible sales letter and send it to them - proving beyond doubt that you'll do everything you can to be an ever increasing revenue creating asset.

Keep sending these wonder shots to a variety of your "preferred people."

Some may respond quickly - but don't depend on it.

Remember - they may not read, bother with or just bin the first 17 (more or less!) - sadly, unwanted, unloved and unread (you can bring people complete utopia and they'll still refuse).

Don't stop sending them - but keep polishing so each new piece gets better and better, you'll see your abilities soaring (and eventually many will read them!).

And you'll have discovered the techniques that get more read.


Two things will happen...

They'll tell you to stop contacting them for whatever or no reason - or they'll hire you - eureka.


It can be a bit of a slog when you first start.

If you are AOK about doing all this solo - it's absolutely fine.

But if the loneliness, solitude and the waiting game are too much of a burden.

It might be a huge help to try and find a 100% committed "friend" who also wants to dive into the wonderful world of copywriting with you.

You'll both increase your skills and knowledge far faster - by not both having to watch countless videos, or reading endless blogs and articles. It takes way too much time on your own.

Tell each other about the truly great things to watch and read.

Split the costs on books, courses and seminars.

Swap notes, ideas and thoughts.

Critique each other's work - make it shine with response creating sublimeness.

And share in the heartaches and joys.

This doesn't have to be a "partnership" - just 2 pals coming to a mutually acceptable "arrangement."

To give your careers a turbo boost.

Because a double boost may well be better than a single charge.
