Hi all,

Guys much appreciated if you could give some good feedback on this:

Just taken on a assignment to do some street promotion for nightclubs. It simply is on-field stuff where you approach general public (in nightspot area of london) of whom many are club goers, and entice them to go to clubs I will be promoting.

I will have a clipboard listing the 5 or 6 clubs I will be promoting and that I know that much that buyer will get discounted price and have the prvilidge of not having to que i.e they will get admission into the clubs straight away.

Its my way of earning some extra cash friday and saturday nights.

Any information as to:

possible hook I should adopt for maximum conversions OR

How I can make myself a 'welcome guest' to the buyer rather than an 'irratating pest' as Dan Kennedy puts it

And anything else strategy wise I can adopt to get conversions. I guess I could put this excersice as 'face-to-face direct response copywriting'.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Smak

I would approach people with a compliment, people are much more open to talk to others when they are complimented on something. I think a big selling point for the above would be something like "How would you like VIP membership access to one of these clubs - no wait"

You didn't say it was VIP but the no wait thing sounds like a VIP benefit and the wording will make people more interested.

No wait, made me think you were trying to say 'no, wait a second..' Maybe something like "Hey, there's a couple night clubs I think you should check out that I'm actually helping promote. They're great places to go to, and I can offer you an exclusive VIP access pass so you don't even have to wait in line."

Friendly talk usually gets people interested just fine.

Look for the old Elmer Wheeler books "Tested Sentences That Sell"
and "Sizzlemanship" - I think both are in the public domain and
findable on PDF. Lots of ideas for phrases that work in these situations.

If I was tasked with this in my town... This is Americanese so not sure how well the slang would translate to British English...

"Hey guys, where's the party at tonight? Oh yeah, have you checked out club xyz? They're pretty cool, they've got some awesome drink specials, they play x music, there's a TON of hot single guys/girls, and I've got these VIP tickets at a discount, so you can skip the line and walk straight in, let me hook you up with a couple..."

I'd probably do better with more than 2 seconds to think about it... But I'd definitely use the casual "Hey guys, what's up?" type of approach.

  • Occurs to me that your "street pitch" would need to be different for girls and guys.

Most clubs want to stuff in the girls to attract the guys. As I think about it, I'm wondering if you should just focus your attention on the gals and perfect a pitch that works for them...Exclusivity, beauty, VIP access, etc.

You could approach someone or a group of girls and say, with authenticity:

"Hi, you have the friendliest face I've seen walking along here, so far. Can I interest you in........" and then continue with your pitch/sentence.

    It's true.

People do like being complimented, even by a stranger.

    Wish you all the best.

You could find your customers in nearby watering holes and eateries before they normally head for the clubs. It would be easier that than the streets. I don't know if you have those charity flower girls like we do, who walk around with baskets, selling roses in restuarants, but you could tie in by giving them a bunch of tickets and organise a split in proceeds. This works well when you cannot wander around diners and they can. The same thing goes for restuarant photographers. Double up and go for volume.
      Some helpful pointers:
      • Nightclub customers like to feel important so VIP everything you can.
      • Ok it's discounted; it's not free because it's popular; But, you are putting extra money back into their pockets and you're only doing it because you have a vested interest in some exciting product sold in the clubs (but you can't tell what it is)they will see it inside.
      • The club you are pitching is owned by the same crowd who started (name some other hot exclusive, hard to get into place)
      • The club plays the best mix of...(whatever genre.) Didn't they read/hear about the DJ's who have just come back from huge gigs in....(some hot club in some other city/country)and are spinning the decks HERE only for a short while before they're off to play in (some country in the Southern Hemisphere summer)
      • Celebs. They like to kick back there...because they know they can relax, undisturbed. Matter of fact xxxxxxx was there with xxxxxx just last night. You never know who you will see
      Hope this helps!
