Advice for a Poker Affiliate's Landing Page

Hello,

I spend a lot of time at poker affiliate forums, but wanted to bring my question over here as I know you guys have more knowledge on landing pages, conversions, and the like.

My site is pokersite(dot)org (I don't have 15 posts so I cannot post a link), and I'm trying to figure out how I can improve the landing page. I just switched the site to this new template and want to tweak it a little to get the most out of it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Mike

Mike, put your mugshot at Top Left and expand the accompanying copy a bit. And instead of asking people to contact you, add a Blog and/or a Forum to the site. I advise this guy and his site is doing very nicely - Poker Chips-ChipTalk.net You'll see it has an active blog and an active forum. cheers, Mal.
  • You are in a seriously cut-throat niche...

First of all online poker, at least in the US and consequently world wide, is shrinking. Less newcomers are coming into the game, most of the players have been around awhile.

That being said, there's fierce competition out there for new sign-ups... There's rake back, free training, free books... There are pro coaches giving their services away for free in exchange for sign ups.

The question you need to ask yourself is how can you compete with them?

Say a guy sees a Full Tilt banner on 2+2, another on PokerTube.com, another on a coaching website (in exchange for free lessons), another on a rake back site, and then yours... Why should they use your link?

May sound harsh but it's very true. I've played online for years. I know what options players have these days, and a review site, unless you get lucky and catch someone who's totally clueless and randomly signs up, isn't going to cut it.

    Good luck,

    -Scott
  • Mike,
Is this an affiliate site (are you making money sending folks to the other sites) or is it just for fun?
  • As someone who was once part of the poker affiliate niche, I can
back up all of Scott's statements.

Unless you have a kick-ass SEO and traffic generation plan, I would
suggest straying away from doing the typical "poker room review"
    type site.

Instead, I would highly suggest going after information products in
that niche. Build up a site with awesome content, and in every page
or so, pop in a small ad for the product.

There's much, much, much less competition for paid information
products in the poker niche. And if you create your own product, their
are thousands of sites out there that wouldn't mind putting up a few
ads to make some extra cash. (Trust me!)
