Who Are Today's BEST For Hire Copywriters?

I'm looking for a top copywriter to replace myself, in my business.

Currently I require roughly 1 sales letter per month. (Although it should be much shorter than a traditional sales letter - as it is sent to existing clients, already 80% sold).

I'm looking for top copywriters, amongst the ranks of John Carlton, Gary Bencivenga, Clayton Makepeace etc. I wouldn't mind spending $10 - $15k per month.

I'd like to avoid:

* Copywriters who will farm out the work. 100% of each piece must be wrote by the copywriter I choose.
* Copywriters with such large ego's they will impede us.

Any idea's?

I retired in 2005 at 43 and now I give away websites like these for FREE [hosting excluded]

When you make at least $100+ per month, we split the profit 80/20 and YOU get the 80% Until then, you keep 100% and I'll help you drive traffic, get backlinks and put the domain in your name too!

John "Ritz" Ritskowitz is a very good copywriter that most people haven't heard of... he's probably better known for his own marketing products.

Michel Fortin, David Garfinkel, and Harlan Kilstein are all over $15K. I don't believe Jay Jennings or Michael Senoff are copywriters for hire. I do know for a fact that Senoff has outsourced his own copywriting in the past.

The top stock market copywriter for hire that I know personally is Doug D'Anna but you'd have to raise your budget to hire Doug and he's booked 6 months or more out.

You can also check with Ray L. Edwards. Dean Dhuli has written financial copy for Agora Publishing numerous times. Rick Duris has written for a number of financial/investment niches, including forex, so there's another name for you.

The other option I can suggest is to find copywriters that you like their writing style and reputation... maybe they're writing for your niches... maybe they aren't. You can contact them privately and see if they have any interest in branching in any of your niches.

      Hope that helps,

      Mike

Thanks Mike, there are a few good names in there.

Just to clear up, these aren't full sales pitches. They are marketing emails, sent to a large subscriber base. It usually takes me 3 - 9 hours to write each one... So for most copywriters this price range would probably be acceptable.

Vin Montello's post appears to have "disappeared"... (wtf?)

So, I'll personally suggest that you get in touch with Vin who
has mentored some of the hottest copywriters in the game
    right now.

He can certainly hook you up with STRONG talent that will
    deliver for you.

I'd also contact Kevin Rogers (one of Vin's proteges himself)
to get access to John Carlton's "Stable Of Copywriters".

There's a directory of copywriters sticky at the top of the forum
that will give you contact information for both.

Good luck in your search. It's nice to see someone who values
    professional copywriting!

You may want to check out Dan Scott. I know he's written a few winning letters in that niche.

        It depends.

Not everyone has written or will write for stock/investment niches. Some of Vin's proteges have... others haven't.

That's not a knock on any of them... I like each and every one of them personally.

The thing is... For the kind of money that the OP is looking to spend, I would highly suggest that he go with someone that has experience with the niches he's targeting and has a strong positive reputation.

I don't write copy for stock/investment niches and probably never will. It's not a strong niche of mine and I probably won't write my very best copy as a result. That's being completely objective about my own skills and strengths. It's also why I regularly turn down these types of projects.

Any copywriter who tells you that they can write their very best copy in all niches isn't being completely honest IMHO.

Everyone has their strengths and the top guns play to theirs so they can continue to stay on top.

        My 3 cents,

        Mike

Couldn't agree with you more Mike. If I
tell a client that I don't feel comfortable
writing for a specific niche their response
          is normally pretty negative...

"Dude, you're a copywriter!? What do
          you mean you don't..."

The truth is that with good research we
could probably write well in any niche.

But EVERYONE has their specialities. I
for one am more comfortable writing
          for the financial/marketing/self-help
markets and tend to stick to what I'm
          good at.

I believe it's a good thing to be honest
with your clients, and if you think they
could get better results elsewhere then
          tell them so!

          Just my opinion...

Wow, nice to be included in that group of names. (I'm watching for a "Send me money via PayPal" notice any minute.)

While I've written some good copy, I've also written more than my fair share of crap. I don't hire out for copywriting and won't until it's always pretty much crap-free.

And who knows how long that might take.

Refreshing honesty you rarely see in these parts of the forum. I now have three copywriting posters that I somewhat trust on Warriors.

Heee... I recommend wearing super duper 'crap spotter' glasses while working. Helps me. :p Or I could be crazy and they're just rose tinted 'crap spotters'. Hmnn.. have to re-evaluate my strategy then.

By the way, Benjamin, I'm looking for a top notch financial newsletter -- not the usual run-of-the mill stuff, but something that will really do me some good.

    Can you make a recommendation?

Thanks for the kind words and recommendation.

I have written for the financial and investment niches, but I doubt I could accomodate a full salesletter and marketing package in my schedule right now.

Maybe in 6 months or so.

However, email copy and less time-intensive projects may be doable, but I'm in the process of booking even that time for the foreseeable future.

You can't go wrong with Vin and his students, or feel free to give me a call or PM/email me to discuss further or get specific recommendations.

      Cheers,

      John
