Who Else Wants To Discover The Secret To Writing Headlines That Begin With The Words 'Who Else'?

Came across that (thread title) and 2 other funny headlines as I was going through some of my marketing materials (in this case, Dan Kennedy materials) on my hard drive.

The other 2 headlines are...

"Do You Have What It Takes
To Write Powerful Headlines
Which Have Quotation Marks
And Are In The Form Of A Question?"

Everybody Laughed When I
Used An Old Headline Template To Create My Headline,
But When I Put It At The Top Of My Sales Letter...

Obviously these are jokes. But, there is a lesson here.

Anyone care to take a stab at that lesson?

3 am where I'm at. Time to go stare at the back of my eye lids for a few hours.

Later today I'll post more on the lesson to be learned. Hint, Dave is pretty damn close. But I will dig a little deeper into it later on.

THIS is most of the lesson.

If you don't recognize the headlines, then you are unfamiliar with some of the most powerful headlines every written. As you probably know, you should have a swipe file.

Which brings me to the main point. Generally speaking, invention is a waste of time. Especially when it comes to great headlines. So there is no reason to reinvent the wheel. One of the reasons for a swipe file is so you aren't staring at a blank page. Swipe files help with writers block.

Most likely nothing new to anyone that has been at this for a decent amount of time. I mainly just wanted to share for the humor part of it. I thought they were pretty funny.

With Camtasia and a little editing, you can get really creative with these.

Here's one I did mixing live action with Xtranormal characters.

Wow, Stephen. One comment: "You suck" and only 2 stars. I'm thinking we need to get you some better reviews and ratings. :p

Guys like this can write whatever the hell they want and still make enough money to call it worthwhile. It's not those guys you should be following anyhow's. Try finding some newspaper headlines that they have written. Then you'll sort the men from the boys. Nuff said.

Hey, whatever works. I am bored sick with many of the classics but they work.

Listen, does a carpenter build a house differently just because he's set studs in the same place between top and bottom plates year after? Does a brain or heart surgeon do something a different way just to be original when the way he's been doing it works time and time again? Of course not.

If something works, it works. If you can find something that works better, by all means use it. Otherwise, use that boring old headline as your base.

Personally, I think there are tons of great headlines out there. You can be original or you can swipe. Whatever works. Numbers are the final judge.

These headlines work because they cause a curiosity of contradiction. That is the joke behind them, and that is the reason the reader actually reads the first sentence... which is the goal of every headline.
