Downsells

Hi everyone,

I've been studying copywriting for a little over a year now, and have been writing copy nonstop for the last 6 months or so. I just got an assignment to write a series of downsell pages and was wondering if anyone had some tips on downsells.

Any swipe files or links to downsell pages that you know of would be very much appreciated as well.

    The downsell page is the page users are directed to when they decline an upsell. Essentially it is your last bit at the cherry to try and increase the value of the sale (or in fact salvage a sale at all if you have given away a free product on the squeeze page).

    The format of the page should be similar to the previous pages the visitor has already been through. I would try to limit the amount of text and copy as the user has already declined the previous offers and is trying to get off the page or get to their original purchase.

    Just make a great offer, perhaps a scaled back version of the original upsale.

    Mike Filsaime comes to mind. That guy writes some of the best oto's and downsells. Honestly I have to stay awawy from his stuff 'cause he knows this market so well he is literally able to float my wallet over to me and open it.

    If you could find some thing of his letters and go through the ordering process, you should have a great place to start.

    Oh and "Congrats on the job." It sounds like fun.

    I've done quite a few downsells and I've seen that the best approach is to tackle it like any other sales letter.

    However, the offer needs to be carefully considered. It should remove a tangible element that had real value. For example, remove the transcripts from videos, or delay when live webinars can be viewed. Or remove the audio version of an ebook, etc.

    I haven't had much success with Downsells on low-priced products but it works fairly well on high-end offers ($197+)

    and 6.5% and it follows EXACTLY what I teach in this video.
