I'd forgotten all about this brilliant Gary Bencivenga "bullet" until I read John_S's post on another thread about the old "Which Headline Pulled Best?" where Gary gives this tip - Never make your claim bigger than your proof.

Check it out - Marketing Bullets | Bullet #3 - it's part of a series of 29 Bullets - #7 is "Can You Pick the Winning Headline?"

Funny that you should mention Gary's bullets. I just revisited the list a couple of days ago for the first time in over a year. It made me realize that I need to drop in there more often.

By the way, those Marketing Bullets are excellent. #3 is really about knowing your prospect's mind, especially when they first encounter your big claim. "Yeah, sure" is the initial skepticism, but I love that "If... then" bypass.

Yah its true, Never make your claim bigger than your proof. So better show first the proof then make some claim. If your proof shows what it claims then you are good to go and people will believe you.

Thanks for that, Mal. I used to read those, but its been a long while. So
I subscribed again. He kinda cracks me up a little with the marketing top
gun, thing. Something about it makes me chuckle, and even chortle if
    the mood is right.
