I owe Rick Duris a MASSIVE THANK YOU!

Yesterday I sent Rickduris a pm asking if he could help me with marketing my business. He recommended we speak via skype.

I just got off the phone after speaking with him 30-40 mins and I truly believe his help will have a massive effect on my business and therefore my life in general.

This guy didn't know me from adam when I pm'd him and asked for his help.

There was absolutely no reason for him to help me at all....

...And yet he did!

That's what I call paying it forward!!!

If I can be of any help to anyone the way this guy helped me in those 30-40 mins I will be a happy man!

Thanks Rick

    Hi Jacob,

You are very kind with your words of appreciation and gratitude. I appreciate and it lifts my spirits today.

Based upon what you've shared with me about your article writing talent, you will do well.

I will reciprocate, maybe not in kind, but definitely in my own way. You will see.

    We will talk again soon.

From the few posts I have seen Rick make here, I can honestly say that
he is probably one of the brightest bulbs on this forum.

Just goes to show you...you can't equate wisdom with join date and post
      count.

This semi successful marketer may just be tapping Rick's brain one day.

Well, I hope you've learned from my mistakes because I've made tons of them.

Truth is, if I had to start all over again, I'd do so many things so differently
that I don't think I'd even recognize my own business model.

I tried doing things on the cheap or free, and it worked, but it took a hell
          of a long time.

          Today?

I'd freakin' research my niche and then outsource the whole damn thing
          like a Donald Trump would.

This hands on stuff is not the best way to build a business, though you do
learn a hell of a lot in the process.

True. But you are where you are in large part due to your life experiences. I think it's a good thing when people know the how's and why's their business and understand the entire process. It makes them a better business person.

In my offline business it's crucial for me to know every aspect of my business. Not that I'm an expert at all of it I don't need to be. But the people I hire need to be and I need to recognize good work when I see it. I wouldn't know that without real life hands on experience. Even my set backs in life provide benefit if I am willing to learn from it.

I've been studying IM for a little over a year and I've learned a lot about this business. I like to learn and am still learning everyday. I am finding my strenghts and weakness in this business. I'm figuring out what I can do well and what I can't. I wouldn't have known any of that had I not tried to do it myself. But now I know I can outsource things to people who make it look easy, even though it's not, and be confident that the job is done right and more quickly than I can. But now I have a better perspective on how the process works. And I'm sure I will continue to learn daily.

So I like it Steven that you know the process. It tells me that "you've paid your dues" so to say. I think some people get into this thinking they are going to make a million overnight and it's going to be easy. All they have to do is buy this "special report" that "guarantees" it!

    Hi Jacob,

I think you'll find that most copywriters are like this. See, someone did this for each one of us - maybe for money (when they give info beyond price) and often just because help was needed.

And you're also right - it's good to pay it forward.

Because each one of us has our very own style, our very own approach to writing and talents, the actual competition with each other is rather low. My clients like me because I'm good with word pictures and scenarios. (Check out my website's story about the Elephant in the Kentucky Derby).

That's why I personally hang out here. Can't always help - but sometimes, yep. In I jump. Negative junk doesn't help anyone. Positive comments just might mean the world to the receiver - and that's what I'm about.

    Sincerely,
    Dot
