How you can profit immediately from writing better sales copy

Thought I'd just offer a few quick tips to writing better sales copy, and of course what I have found works for me:

1. Use the language of your prospect. If you are selling golf clubs, you might say things like "drive it home with these golf clubs", or get on the green, etc, etc. If you don't understand your 'target' market (and are say just an affiliate trying to "sell" something to someone), you'll find it much harder. Likewise, with a computer crowd, you might talk about how you can "overclock" your machine, how it supports "multithreading" with ease, etc, etc. Because this kind of terminology is what your target market eat, sleeps, and speaks. If you don't use it, you are a 'foreigner', and stick out like a sore thumb, as if you were visiting from another country.

2. Use a-list phrases. Use common "sayings" or "expressions", i.e., you better get this before it "bottoms out", or "this is a steal", "but wait, there's more!", "mark my words", etc, etc.

Which copy sounds more 'actionable'?

PLEASE NOTE: THIS is just an EXAMPLE of using 'action' phrases. This is not how you would actually WRITE your copy, but I am just trying to illustrate a difference in "pace".

"Get this before it bottoms out, it is an absolute steal, and at these prices, you'd be insane not to get in on the action! But wait, there's more! Sign up now and get these bonuses. Mark my words, it won't last long!"

Versus:

"Get this product because the market is changing, and the current prices is exceptionally good value. If you do not purchase now, that would be rather foolish. Also, please reserve your spot now because then you can get some bonuses. Pay attention to what I am saying, because this will only be offered for a short time".

Which "version" of the sales copy gets your blood moving? Which one gets you more excited?

Anyways, those are my copywriting tips of the day. Feel free to add anything that you feel would add value,

Thanks!

JJ

    • Hi Alexa,

Actually I was trying to just illustrate a difference in pace, I was not trying to show it as "actual" copy. Of course you would not actually use that as actual copy.

Thank-you however, I've edited my original post to reflect that so it should be clear.

      Thanks

They both get my blood moving and my fingers itching to get a grip around the throat of the person who wrote them, to be honest.

That one's use of language will clearly alienate large numbers of people and cost a lot of sales. It more or less combines all that's bad about "home-made copywriting" when people who don't really understand the fundamental concepts try to copy it from others (who often didn't understand them too well themselves), and that sort of trite, ridiculous, pseudo-pressurized nonsense is the outcome.

People who use "copy" like this often have absolutely no idea how many sales it's costing them.

Well, you're obviously advancing that as a "pastiche" of what you perceive as a bit pompous and cumbersome. But believe me: hideous though it is, it will still perform better than the example above (and its glaring deficiencies are also much more easily remediable in the hands of someone who can actually write a bit)!

you do know that there is a "copywriting" section in this forum, don't you?

a word of advice: This forum is full of "copywriters", and copywriting have been around for thousands of years, trying to sell copywriting related stuff to those who dare to call themselves "copywriters" is like trying to sell baby pacifiers to a 100 years old man.
