Books/Courses that Analyze Sales Letters?

Hey Everybody,

I have a friend who's trying to get into copywriting. I've pointed
her in the direction of all the big names.

She's digesting everything but keeps asking me for actual sales
letters that are broken down piece by piece -- with an explanation
of what and why things are written the way they are.

More of the thought process that goes into a certain section and
the reasoning behind it.

Any suggestions for book or courses out there that do this?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

If your friend is ignorant of the basic structural elements of
a classic salesletter "The Ultimate Salesletter" by Dan Kennedy
    lays it out succinctly.

Herschell Gordon Lewis wrote several books in which he
dissects bad copywriting and proposes a system of axioms
and rules to prevent or correct bad writing. "On The Art
Of Writing Copy" gets into it in depth and "Direct Mail
Copy That Sells" covers it as well. The two books complement
one another well. He writes a curmudeonly column
every month for DIRECT - a print magazine of the direct
marketing industry - worth subscribing to and free.

In his course "Ad Magic" Brian Keith Voiles breaks copy
down in detail showing the individual components. His
ideas are an obvious synthesis of Ted Nicholas and Jeffrey
Lant's advice in their copywriting books: "Magic Words That
Make You Rich" and "Cash Copy", respectively. Voiles
is world-class in his own right and his course has great value
    - it's even endorsed by Australian master Peter Sun.

Daniel Levis, an active online copywriter, breaks things down
in an exceptionally logical way in the stuff I have read
    by him.

I'd recommend that she just takes good sales letters and writes them each out by hand...

She'll get a great feel for the tempo, wording and structure of the letters herself... better than having it explained.

Depending upon the amount she's willing to pay --

      Michel Fortin's Copy Doctor membership.

      http://www.thecopydoctor.com

Been a member for years -- even when he had a 2 tier membership.

      Highly recommended.

If she is willing/interested to purchase thru an affiliate link, I have one of those.

AWAI used to have the "Monthly Copywriting Genius" which also did something similar --
but they just stopped publishing it. Not sure about the accessibility of back issues.

Reading and copying Gary Halbert letters and materials from Makepeace Total Package helps too. I like the list Loren provided and that alone will keep me busy for awhile. Google each of those fellas and look for the materials.

I know that Daniel Levis's SellingToHumanNature breaks salesletter piece by piece.
