Looking for one particular salesletter, please help

Hi, thanks in advance

I am looking for the url to one particular salesletter I saw recently while browsing the internet, I had saved the url to my favorites, but I can't find it now. The salesletter headline reads:

it's criminal
listen we are sick of seeing money hungry border line criminals
who want to get their sticky firgers on your money charging over
the top prices for products and services that don't work

the headline was not in red, it was written in very nice looking colors and font, maybe some of you have seen it and know the specific product that it promotes. if you know who wrote it and could tell me the name of the copywriter I will appreciate it also.

thanks

That's a very good example of How Not To Do It. What were they thinking with all that drop-shadow font above the fold? They want the reader to go blind trying to read it? And the body font is too small. "As featured on Google, msn, yahoo, youtube and twitter" - Gosh, I'm excited. "Border Line" should be one word. "One Stop Shop for success". Not.

Nothing wrong with drop shadow when used correctly. In fact testing has shown it increases initial readership.

The problem on this headline isn't the drop shadow...

It's the addition of the raised letter embossing or whatever it is that puts a white "shell" (don't know what else to call it) around the font before the drop shadow. It's ridiculous. And worst of all is I've been seeing this a lot lately.

And the font itself was a bad choice.

And the body font... true it's small. But the biggest issue with it is IMO that it's a bad font choice to begin with. When in doubt go sans serif.

Wiki says: The "Border Line Criminals" were a gang of illiterate outlaws in the 1880s. They terrorized outhouses throughout the west with poorly spelled graffiti such as:

"Hur I set brokin harted ... kame tuh shat butt unly fartd"

Please point me to the testing that shows drop shadow increases initial readership. I'd be interested in seeing those stats.

Wasn't a study metronicity... just little old me testing the standard html font in a sales letter against a graphic headline with drop shadow (but none of that white shell). And 12 out of the 17 times I tested it the pretty graphic headline got more people reading (as shown by time on the page).

Not every time... but often enough. And tests were done in a variety of niches.

If that headline caught so much my attention that I even took a screenshot of it, it will probably catch the attention of most visitors, I have been taking screenshots at catchy headlines for years now, and it had been a while seen I did not take a screenshot of one until I saw that one.

It caught my eye... but it didn't make me want to actually read it.

I want to be able to read something without trying to figure out what it says.

Yes it may attract attention but how many are actually going to read it? As opposed to this page for instance.

Colin Wheildon was an Australian who spent 6 months trying to find some definative answer to the simple question: "How does typography affect the comprehension of my direct mail pieces?"
Frustrated, he resigned himself to conduct a massive scientific study on this very topic.
        Note #5 on that page
        Do not use ornamental typefaces.

          Note #5 on that page

Times have changed, we are mostly dealing with people who spend hours a day looking at 3D graphics playing video games....

I would have to say the top of that page hurt my eyes looking at it. I'm not too familiar with fonts but don't people test their copy before they put it out there?

I couldn't read the darn thing. Closed page right off the bat.

    Here you go -
    Reading From a Screen
There is a lot of evidence to support the belief that serif fonts, such as Times New Roman (TNR), are more readable than sans serif fonts, such as Arial, in printed material. On the page the serifs provide visual clues that help readers to see the shapes of letters and words, at least partly because they are so widely used that we are accustomed to seeing them.
On screen the situation is less clear cut. Even high screen resolutions are insufficient to accurately reproduce the serifs and the lower the resolution the greater the problem.
Thus it has been generally recommended that sans serif fonts, such as Arial and Verdana, are used online and they are they ones we most commonly see. However recent research seems to knock conventional wisdom on the head and reveals that font readability might in fact be determined by what the user is accustomed to reading. All studies are unanimous on size however - anything less that 10pt creates difficulties for many users.

Recent research may suggest different... but not my recent research. And all things being equal... I'll take my actual boots on the ground research over something I had nothing to do with.
