What is the best copywriting course that won't break the bank for a complete newbie

hi,
i have just been recently been layed off in my day job and have finally decided to give copywriting a go. I have been looking at courses but they are way too expensive for me at this stage.

Has anyone got any recomendations of low price but great quality copywriting courses i can invest in?

Thanks

I will second all these, with my favorite being Tested Advertising Methods.

The best course I've seen is John Carlton's
Simple Writing System. It's the only way I
know of to get advice and feedback from
veteran writers without hiring one as a long
    term coach.

But then, I'm a tutor on that course, so maybe
    I'm biased.

If you check it out right now, John's giving
away a totally free express version for the
    next few days.

Having said all that, do you have any experience
writing copy, or writing anything else professionally?

If you've just been laid off from a job and
you're looking to start a career writing copy
with no skill or experience, it's probably not
    going to work.

    No offence.

It takes a lot of hard work before most people
    can earn money doing this.

By all means start studying, but don't expect
it to replace your income anytime soon.

Thank you for the info. I have now signed up for John Carlton's free ecourse and then will take it further. I am a newbie to the whole internet marketing gig, but I think I have a writing gift somewhere in there, that I want to let loose onto the web, and beyond. I most definitely would like to be someone who can writer her own 'killer sales pages" and then maybe sell it on to others, too. Hey, who knows, I'm just getting started.

Check out my signature link: I've got two books there I'm giving away on my site. One is 'Scientific Advertising' and the other is 'The Psychology of Advertising'.

    Both excellent... and both free.

Edit: I no longer have them on my site, but you can do a search on google for scientific advertising. It's free to download.

I bought this WSO some time back http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...ehkG5EegRnenIZ

As you can see, it's recommended by many there .
Robert - the author - is readily available for your sales page critiques.

    Hope that helps

      I'll second that.

If you want to pay for something, you could do much worse than get Robert's stuff.

He knows what he's talking about.

If you don't have the money to buy a good course or hook up with a good mentor (the best option), you're left with 1) learning from books and 2) reading the blogs of successful copywriters.

Here's a couple of articles I wrote on the subject ...

Here's a quick, fun and powerfully educational read that'll cost you all of $10. It's ridiculously inexpensive.

It's not a "how to write a sales letter" book.

It's a "how to think about writing a letter, then writing that letter" book

    I recommend this one -

Leads you by the hand through the whole process, and helps you get started.

I'm actually taking the above course and I'm at module 5 and so far it's blown my mind. Things I never knew or saw about the mind and how it relates to copy. So simple but really really profound. It's not only affecting my copy but the way I'm seeing the world.

Paul is doing an amazing job at this point and I'm not even into the advanced material.
