Okay, here's the deal. I spend about a week creating a really nice looking (in my opinion anyway), set of webpages. I got individual product pages, descriptions, inbound links, articles, blogs with rss feeds, both inbound and out, and in generally, pretty good stuff. I'm happy with them. The problem is, I don't know if they are going to entice the visitor to actually go to that all important order button and click it.

I have no sales copy, only content details and review.

So, once again, I turn to the forums; specifically, the IM Warriors. Please, take a look at my sites, and tell me your opinion. How much sales copy do I need to add, where do I find it, and does the content on the page now all but tell the customer to get lost.

I'm so biased. Thanks warriors. I'll be around.

    Hi timber,

I have a couple of comments:

    1. You may get traffic, but your conversions will, unfortunately, suck.

    2. Your competition is youtube.com as well as other video sites, like viddler.com and vimeo.com. Meaning it's ALL free. And much of it is good training if not great.

Type in "guitar lessons" on youtube.com and see what comes up. You'll be amazed.

My guess is you'll need to rethink your content and strategy to make any money.

    3. There is a way through the gauntlet: Specialization.

Your problem is not one of copy, but of strategy, USP and specializing on a SPECIFIC TYPE of guitar playing. (By the way, "Become a Guitar God"? Puleez.)

For instance, let's say you want to specialize on Led Zeppelin/Jimmy Page fretwork.

Or reposition your work as kick-a** studio country guitar lessons.

Or let's say folks want to learn pentatonic shred work.

Or how to play slide like Duane Allman.

For instance, years ago I got hooked on Delta Blues. Sun House, Mississippi John Hurt, Blind Lemon Jefferson, etc. If I wanted to learn that today, I'd pay for that privilege.

If I were you, I'd wrack my brain for a few days coming up with things I could build/teach beyond question, do the keyword research and see what people are searching for guitar-wise. And focusing on "money" terms where it's clear people are buying not just learning.

But here's where it gets fun: Give away the training online but sell them something that's reasonably priced where you can hit it out of the park.

For instance, how about a rock star guitar camp? Yes, there are several. You could also sell all sorts of guitar-related products and things online.

Or how about accessories, like pedals, amps and such? That's the strategy that's working.

    - Rick Duris

PS: I am available for a consult on a private basis. No charge. I want to see you do well.

PPS: And yes, I am a guitar player and I can rip and tear and shred and burn and scorch (and yes, also make it wail like a violin, weeping) with the rest of them.

PPPS: I apologize if I have "called your baby ugly," but I just want to help you make money.

"Welcome to Jamorama"??? You're trying to pass yourself of as the Jamorama site?

And please...I don't know how many times I see this and it drives me crazy - "especially if your just starting out"

"your" denotes possession. Such as "your car".

"You're" - which is the one you're after is short for "you are". Never "your".

      Hi Timber,
Content doesn't vs copy, In my opinion, they are a team
      =============================================
Well you could change a ton of things to get sales here.

First of all, there is a ton of competition on YouTube and elsewhere on the Internet, but that doesn't mean you can't learn to out rank and get sales, I do it as an affiliate a lot!!

I see where I can join the different courses or editions ok, but from there I am not drawn to the join now button. Try calling a little louder to the link that gets the sale, use a sharp graphic button not a bold hypertext link.

You should also add padding where text floats around images.
      <img src="url" alt="message" style="float: left; padding: 8px;" />
The padding 8px will get that copy from crowding the image, looks bad. I just saw this problem in the standard edition page don't know about the others.

Main Point: Use a big cool order button, suggesting it's time to jam or something

Add short sample flash shots of the product.

      Just a few thoughts

    Hey everyone, What's up?

Don't worry about the 'ugly baby' deal, I've learned a long time ago not to fall in love with a web creation, after all, I'm not an artist, I deal with more behind the scene's stuff.

Regarding the comments, for the most part, I agree with what I'm seeing. I know that youtube can kick my ass, my only logic is that if someone is searching google and not youtube for guitar information, lessons, etc... then maybe they are looking for something a little more indepth.

Oh, and I agree about the 'your' vs 'you're ', annoyance here also, and that fact that I let one slip by, 20 lash's with the cat-o-nine for me.

Anyway, I was just curious as too which site you were refering to in regard to my site. insider-guitar-lessons.com or theguitarreviews.com/ Or am I to understand that you were speaking generally about both sites?

Thanks again for the feedback. "even bad publicity
    is still publicity".

Okay, it seems perfectly obvious that my site sucks, that's fine. It would be more helpful however, if you actually told me which page you were referring too? Do your comments go towards both site? You may have noticed, but I am not a professional web site designer, and I have seen dozens of pages that look much worse than mine.

    thanks

    Timber,

I'm not 100% sure about this, so take it with a grain of salt... but I've heard Jam-Orama (I'm not really sure how I should spell that) has terrible conversions.

I'm also wondering why in the world you've capitalized Every Single Word Ad Nauseum () in your first website?

Regarding your second website, it screams "BS".

I'm not a guitarist, but I am a musician... and it's clear from your writing you have no idea what playing an instrument is actually like (or at least if you do you don't write like it).

If you want to make this work, the first thing you have to do is understand your target market.

And at the moment... you don't have a clue.

    I'd fix that first.

Buy a guitar and try to learn it for a week or two. Get a copy of "Jam-Orama" and see if it really does help.

Then you'll be in a better position to comment.

    Kind regards,
