You are making slaves of your wives...

Here is another vintage ad (no, I didn't create it) that I believe has some extremely effective elements. What do you think?

Hmmm... Guilt and shame. Who woulda thunk those could be powerful motivators...

While it says 'you men' I would think the advert is actually aimed at the wives. I can just picture the little lady shoving this in her guy's face as soon as he walks in through the door.

"look, see, someone understands. Why can't you!?"

Yeh a lot like the Cadillac commercials with kate walsh and Sofia V. (cupholders, etc) where on first impression it is geared towards women, but it is actually for men who want hot women by driving a caddy! Brilliant marketing.

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.

10 cents a loaf? That must have been a real long time ago.

There is a baker here in the UK selling a hand made loaf online for £21 ($30). It's made with organic spelt flour and a 55-year-old sourdough recipe, Cotswolds spring water, and Cornish sea salt.

What's more he sells them too! There has to be a lesson here.

Not an ad for a "Mommy's Boy"...

It's better than your mother ever made

I don't know where this ad was placed, but I suspect it was designed for female consumption as well...which leads to:

Translated for a female audience: "It's better than HIS mother ever made"

I suspect this was designed to give wives a good reason to stop making and start buying bread.

      Yup.

There really are people with more money than sense.

Wow. I must say the post title caught my attention, but it does speak volumes for the way advertising works!

Wow, even I feel like a selfish jerk after reading that. And I don't even have a wife.

I like the blurb on the side where they explain why Holsum is better than home-made bread.

And the headline did get my attention.

It's a winner - and in a sub-section of advertising that is one of the hardest nuts to crack. As Claude C. Hopkins points out in Scientific Advertising, it's no easy task to win people over not only to your product, but to an entirely new way of dealing with a need in life. The task here isn't merely to promote Holsum bread over the pre-baked competitors, but to win people away from home-baking in the first place. That's a tall order - but this ad delivers.

      I'd say both.
