Give me some BASE clue..

I'm in love with the idea to be a copywriter. I think I found myself although I'm only 21. I love this topic. I run my first project for three months.

Anyway, I would like you to advice me for basic copywriting books or not so basic but good, because I want to handle myself. I don't have an idea if there is such a subject in the university but i don't care. I want to do it myself.

So what I need now is direction, and I ask you warriors for major help
I want as much opinions as it's possible..

Thanks in advance..

    Hey Niuhmerch!

Good for you for taking the initiative to try out something new that you feel passionately about! I've been copywriting successfully for a few years now, and from my own experience, I'll recommend you the following:

Get yourself a mentor. Make the investment, because it'll be worth it. There are a TON of copywriters on here that are amazing at what they do. Troll the forums and find someone's "voice" that you like, then check out their style. Once you've found someone, contact them directly and ask them if they mentor students.

Study the greats. You'll run into the same names over and over once you've immersed yourself in the copywriting world. Gary Halbert, Gary Bencivenga, Vin Montello (on here and awesome), Bob Bly, Clayton Makepeace, etc. find their letters. study the style they're written in. HAND WRITE THEM so you get a feel for that style (yes- seriously!).

Books should come second in line behind studying the actual copy itself. Learn the expressions that pop.

Create a list of POWER WORDS that make things stand out.

Study the actual PEOPLE that are reading the copy...This, I would have to say, is the most important part. You need to learn how to reach an audience in a compelling way without patronizing them. People are smart, and they know sincerity. They also know BS, even when it's disguised in rainbow colored bubbles being blown at them. You need to be persuasive and REAL with people, or your copy is going to flop.

Find someone to model that seems genuine to you, learn their style, see if they'll take you under their wing as a mentee (paid), and go from there.

Maintain integrity in your work and you'll do great.

Phew! I'm off the soap box... Good luck!

PS- Joe Vitale has a book titled "hypnotic Writing" that I found extremely insightful and easy to read. Check it out. Other than that, start building a killer stash of proven letters to refer to, a "swipe file".

    Ok. Really done now

Get some of the copywriting books in the sticky.

    Read 'em.

Study what makes people tick - why they do things. Become a student of human behavior.

    Become obsessive about it.

Dissect ads... junk mail... sales letters... everything. Look at what works and what doesn't... and why.

Finally... write letters. They don't have to be for clients... or even real products.

Spend time on them. Polish them until they're as good as you can make them.

Then ask for feedback from established copywriters.

They'll rip your work apart. It'll hurt. But you'll learn. You'll get better.

Then do it all over again.

Eventually you'll be great... if you're willing to put in that kind of effort.
