Drayton Bird on How to edit copy - and the secret of charm

I just know you guys will benefit from these, so I'll keep posting them till someone says 'stop'.

Last week I sat beside Drayton and watched him go through copy written by one of his clients. Keep in mind this piece of copy wasn't bad.

Drayton just sat there, in front of his screen, and edited it with such ease it was amazing.

By the time he finished, it was a masterpiece.

I really like Drayton Bird's stuff and his approach. He's just started putting more and more videos on his blog and one on writing a report was really good the other day.

Definately worth subscribing to his newsletter and not that I'm biased ... he's UK based : )

      He is.

And the good thing is, while others claim it, Drayton definitely is the best direct marketer and copywriter in the UK.

And one of the top five, at least, in the world.

"Pointless adjectives ... adjectives should be used sparingly there're far too many fabulous, exiting, amazing, wonderful, brilliant blah blah blah Bulls*** in copy"

He's interesting to listen to as well (and like a lot of great copywriters - outspoken).

Don't forget, if you have questions and you put them on his blog, he will answer them.

Do I detect a bit of a brummy accent there?

I like his comments about charm, very good indeed. I must try and put this into practice more.

Thank you for posting this up.

        Mark Andrews...
Twenty years - so you're in your fifties?

Yep I'd agree. He also comes across as such a really nice guy and it doesn't feel fake.

It's a matter of what you see is what you get with Drayton. He's also very funny.

Nope. I think he was born in Liverpool, but I'm not certain. Can't say I noticed the accent, though.

If I could just hang out on his porch swing for an afternoon... He does seem genuine, and he shares a perspective that is so simple it seems obvious, when in reality it's one of the rarest to find in people. Very refreshing! What an interesting person.

See the second link in my sig.? That's Drayton's monthly course. (Not an affiliate link).

You get to see him doing live webinars, where you can ask him questions, and you get other freebies as you go along.

I'm on this program and I've learned more from him than anyone else. If you know the people I've been learning from, and still am, you'd know what a big deal that is.

Incidentally, the first link in my sig. goes to a site that's not yet complete, but the course lasts a full year and includes the monthly webinars, if you wanted to go that route.

And you get to take an exam and be certificated at the end of it. I'm on that.

My knowledge of direct marketing and copywriting has improved by at least 1000% in the last few months as a result.
