Need some advice on a copywriting course

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to ask - I am interested in the AWAI program 'Secrets of writing for the business to business market' and wondered if anyone had done this and recommends it. I was also looking at their six figure copywriting course and cannot decide between the two. I have already done Bob Serling's 'Power Copywriting' course and the 'Ultimate copywriter' course as well.

Now, I freelance anyway and am doing quite well, although I really want to break into b2b writing - my aim is to set up a b2b writing consultancy by this time next year and I wanted all you veterans out there to give me the lowdown on the best way to do it.

I just had a nosey at John Carlton's copywriting course too - and now I have no idea which one to go for? I was actually thinking of doing the Carlton course and the b2b course. Will it prepare me for consultancy?

Pleeeeeeezzzeee give me your honest opinion - with a family to support and my hubby just losing his job, I really need to make this work and make the right decision, so any advice would be much appreciated.

thanking you!

    Good evening my friend,

I don't want to show off, but I've tried most of the courses out there. Starting from Clayton Makepeace (who is the master of financial and health markets) to John Carlton and Dan Kennedy ... I've read one course too many.

But, from all these courses, a few shined.

    These are:
    1. Simple Writing System by John Carlton. I don't know about the seminar, but I've bought the home study course. It's very good. It won't teach you how to write "advanced" copy, but it is very good to get the basics down. Basics like your USP, writing bullets and so on.

    2. Ultimate Desktop Copy Coach from Clayton Makepeace.
This monster course is about 1000 pages long ... and it should take you at least two months to go through it. It teaches you every you need to know about writing copy, but you'll get overwhelmed sooner or later.

    3. AWAI - Secrets of writing for the B2B market. The only complete course I've ever saw focusing on the B2B copywriting. It will teach you how to get clients, how to write headlines copy, etc. It will also give you some good exercises to learn B2B copy. A must have if you're targeting this field.

For B2B markets, Bob Bly is the ultimate master. He wrote more books on this than any other copywriter or marketer. If you're just starting out, I suggest you get his "Handbook of copywriting formulas". It will help you get the basics down without too much hassle.

That's all you need to know. Need a few extra suggestions ... including some great notes on B2B I've took? PM!

    Best regards,
    Howard J.

    Arfa,

Check out the sticky. Get some of the books recommended from Amazon for like $10 each.

That'll be more than enough... no need to blow hundreds on expensive courses just yet.

When you're rolling in the dough, sure... reinvest and see if they help you.

But IMHO the classic paperbacks will put you ahead of most copywriters (if you truly learn them).

    Kind regards,

    -Dan

        Hi Arfa,

If you're interested in writing online copy, you might also want to check out Jason Fladlien's copywriting courses.

I also have read somewhere around here that the AWAI 6 figure copywriting course can often be found on eBay at a really good discount.

There's a reason AWAI's courses can be found on eBay...

they are - without a doubt - pure garbage.

Their basic level course is a total waste.

Then you're stuck in upsell hell.

Their writing for the health market is an embarrassment. They should withdraw it.

After I started sharing my opinions of AWAI, along with my Megaman video, they added "DO NOT SELL TO THIS PERSON" to my address label.

Then when I made a video about that, they finally stopped mailing me their crap.

Like I was going to by it anyway.

Let's see: Carlton's SWS where you get personally tutored by the best copywriters in the industry or AWAI where your work is critiqued by newbies who get $10 a critique.

      Tough choice there.

      Here's the Youtube video:

The issue in B2B copywriting is not whether there are good resources
out there for learning how to write copy.

The issue is whether you have the moxie to market yourself.

I've found better material on marketing yourself as a free agent
in books targeted at consultants than ones targeted at freelance
    writers.

Positioning, in brief, is very important. The concept of positioning
is somewhat more embedded in the stuff available on consulting
than the stuff on freelance writing as a career.
