Why I'd rather be punched in the testicles than call customer service - The Oatmeal

This comic is essentially presented like a sale letter. This comic has better scanability than a lot of copy that I see. I'm not exactly sure what should be learned from this, but I think it is interesting nonetheless.

  • Andy, that is sooooo funny - thanks. I'm not sure if it could sell anything (kind of doubt it) but it does have easy scan-ability and makes great points in funny way.

    • It's funny. Reminds me of Dilbert.
I guess it suits the site's image.
  • Our records show that your warranty expired approximately 11 minutes ago.

    Saturn is okay, I guess.
  • It looks funny Andy.

I'll definitely share this link. lol!

    • Reminds me of calling Sony....surely the worst customer care in the world!
  • Andy!

That was beautiful. We've all been there! I love the picture of the pretty headset operator and the picture of the person you're actually talking to with the Taj Mahal in the background... That's Gold Jerry... Gold!

I think I have a new mission for split testing to see if my copy actually works. I will post that cartoon and replace the part where it says "THE END Created by Oatmeal" with "Click here to buy my product."

I'll let you know how sales go! Lol

    Cheers
  • Hahahahahaha that was hilarious!

  • Andy, is this your comic? It's amazing, I love it and I'm going to link it to my Facebook so everyone else can see it.
  • nice one, andy!
  • Good find, Andy.

As I read, I kept trying to discover how it was the writer was holding my attention. He/she was telling a story. That's all. And I wanted to hear the conclusion.

Look at the "banner ads" for his/her other articles - placed along the right hand side, and at the bottom of the webpage. The curiosity headlines drag this reader into reading other stories.

  • Boardroom Reports direct response mailing "America's Best Kept Secrets" done as a comic book. No laughs in it.

    It's a better example.
  • John_S: I can't seem to find a larger copy of that image. I'd love to check that series out.

Also no this is not my comic, but I thought it was awesome.

I'm tempted to make a sales letter that parallels this one's style. A risky but undeniably fun project.
  • Everything by the oatmeal is pure gold. I just love his stuff
  • "Risky but undeniably fun"?
What on earth are you waiting for?! Sounds like the perfect way to spend some work time in a potentially valuable way.
When ideas are fun, if the idea doesn't work, at least you got to enjoy it.
Sure beats the drudgery of working "on the line" for guaranteed pittance pay.

    • I don't agree with the "pittance" part , but you're right, he should go for it.
  • I guess a person could always send a copy of that to the cust. serv. dept. that screwed up the call. Food for thought, right?
