Just wanted to share this quick tip for doing your final draft.

I don't know about you, but I do my best work under pressure.

I guess you could say diamonds are made under pressure.

So when you're doing your final draft, try this...

Imagine the copy you're looking at just launched and it's absolutely BOMBING. JV partners and your client are pointing fingers at you and asking why your stuff is sucking eggs.

Now go to work in that frame of mind.

I don't know... works for me.

That's like the gun to the head Gary Halbert was talking about.

Really makes you work and keeps you on your toes.

It's funny -- this reminds of a sales training session I attended. They used an extreme example about how far someone would go in order to get sales appointments to generate sales.

Imagine someone putting a gun to your head and telling you if you don't make XX sales appointments today they will pull the trigger. I think it was even more extreme than this, though, i.e. someone points a gun to your loved one and then tells you that you have to make XX sales appointments or you'll never see them again. Harsh, no?

Some people need a high pressure motivational tool and I love working under high pressure situations myself. Not quite as extreme as the example here, but you get the idea.

You're right -- the results are amazing because you're really working under intense conditions and there's no slacking involved. It's do or die.

You know... the gun to the head mentality never really worked for me.

I guess I had to dig deeper into my own experiences to find what would really motivate me.

Because when my letters launch, I see em in a new more intense light... has me really on my game... so I guess that's why this strategy works for me.

I'm sure it varies writer to writer, but the Gun To The Head metaphor has been a KILLER for me....(opps)....seriously, I can get more focused with this than anything else.
