WTF - How 'bout you!? Warning: This is a RANT!

I just don't think I can take it much longer.
Do we really need a language anymore to communicate with each other?
Really?? What's the point?

I was just checking out a company's website that sells websites on Flippa.com.

Header copy: Quality Detailed Oreiented.
Anyhow, if you need to sell a website, they are quite intrested!

Thanks for listening friends.

Here is some rancid sh*t that has been getting under my skin lately:
1. Rampant misspelled & misused words throughout PLR products and websites
2. Same for IM mass emails
3. Emails from IMs with "Payment Sent" as subject
4. Sales/Squeeze pages that tell me that it is not my fault that I'm not yet a millionaire from my internet marketing efforts. (Yes, it is my fault!)
5. Website sellers who refer to their graphics as gorgeous. Not sure why, just sounds ridiculous to me. My fiancee is gorgeous (at least, I think so), my website graphics are cool, eye-catching, etc.
6. Broke my toe last week and it is throbbing.

I have been working on a new product release but I think I will put it on hold and put together one concerning the importance of that little red squiggly line that appears under misspelled words: Underground Squiggly Red Line Secrets Revealed, or perhaps, The Squiggly Red Line Code. Look for it soon in the WSO's!!

Anyone else?

    Bro...

Don't they give you some kind of pain medication for that throbbing?

I hear methodone mellows people out a fair bit

In seriousness... most people DO want to hear that it's not their fault... so you're in the minority there.

No doubt, or maybe just a shot of cheap scotch. I need something to mellow me out just a tad. (Now that I ponder it, Methadone is usually used to assist good folks to kick a heroin addiction.) At any rate, it isn't my fault that I broke the toe, mind you.

Anyhow, my apologies. I know my posts should add value (even if it's 2:00 am.)

At any rate, thanks for the response.

BTW, I just checked out your sales page, and that is GOOD stuff, man. That is real copywriting!!

Let's talk. I have some projects coming up soon.

Greg, you can be relieved to know the broken toe you suffer from IS NOT YOUR FAULT and you have a legitimate personal injury claim against whatever (or whoever) you hit your toe against.

It's cost you time, frustration, money and loss of happiness--as well as peace of mind. You've unfortunately been compromised.

Now's the time to file a claim. To learn more about how you can be compensated for your pain and suffering, contact me at xxx-xxx-xxxxx.

No need to apologize. Rants are good sometimes. I just like to add some humor to the proceedings where possible.

          And thanks for the compliment.

Your toe hurts so everything ticks you off, right? My doctor's advice - take two aspirin and in the morning call someone who cares (of course, he only says that when he's off duty:p) .

Hope tomorrow's a better toe day.

1 & 2: Bugs the hell out of me too. I'm a stickler for speling and grammers.

3: This kind of stuff is really lame. The people who use these types of headlines probably don't care too much about their subscribers.

    4. Also lame. That's fact, not opinion

    5. Gorgeous is just another adjective used to describe beauty. Would you be pissed if someone called their graphics "pretty", "cute", "nice looking", "hot", "sexy", or "stunning"? I think you're being a little too picky

You raise valid criticisms! I wouldn't call that "being negative" at all.

      Curtis,
Yes, maybe you are correct. I'm probably being too picky on that one. I was trolling through Flippa, and it seemed like 20% of the listings were using that word. Maybe that is why it annoyed me so. Sometimes an individual will grab a word from the thesaurus to be a bit different, and then others begin to copy that.

There are a number of common phrases that appear in many sales letters. No doubt, there are certain words and phrases that are moti
vating and tend to be call-to-action oriented, but, I think sometimes it is tempting to just plug in phrases that are tired and overworked. There's just no substitute for getting inside the prospect's head and learning and speaking to their needs and desires. Then they will beg to buy (or at least stay on a page for more than 15 seconds, lol.)

What does the prospect desire? If, for example, the site is a money-making opp, is it money that they want? Perhaps. That is a surface, or Tier 1 desire/need. Deeper, below the surface (Tier 2), perhaps, they really want freedom, a feeling of success and peace, relief from the stress of being broke and deeply in debt, less time spent chasing a dollar and more time spent creating a life that is meaningful, etc. Sincerely speak (and sell) to those deep, Tier 2 needs, and con
      versions can increase dramatically.

      Anyhow, I digress ... again!

      Greg,

      Something else to consider...

      Solving other peoples problems is
ONLY GOOD if you are doing it for

They are the ones paying for your living and lifestyle.

        Ewen,

        Hey, you are dead on.
When I was just out of college, broke, recently married and a child on the way, I was struggling with a new photography business. My work was of high quality (gorgeous work, actually), and my pricing was reasonable, but I just wasn't making ends meet. I was on the road constantly so I had many lonely miles with nothing but my gear and a Zig Ziglar, See You At The Top, tape series.

I must have listened to those same 12 tapes 100 times. Zig, among others of course, teaches that until you place the needs of others ahead of your own, success will not come.

When I had an attitude change, my sales skyrocketed. When my motivation to sell portraits (I photographed families and children, primarily) was because my electric bill was past due, sales suffered. But then a change came. I started to believe in the importance and value of my product. I began to realize how important it was to people to have portraits of their families as their children grew older; as a record of the most important times of their lives. I reminded them that twenty years from that point, that those portraits would still be on the wall, or in an album, etc. (I should really be working right now...) But I said that because I believed it, not because I wanted to make a fast buck. People pick up on that and it becomes real and not manipulation.

At any rate, there is no better time that RIGHT NOW to grab the opportunities that we have to help others. Folks are struggling and hurting and if we can bring to market, true solutions and strategies to help them increase their incomes, then we are truly making a difference as we increase our own incomes.

I am SO on your wavelength with all the items on your list, except for the "gorgeous" graphics, a term I'm still mulling over. Maybe it's the alliteration they like? Can illiterates alliterate? I don't know, and that's probably my fault.

Can we add "talk soon" and "see you on the other side" to the list? This from people I've never talked to and never will. And "on the other side" of what? That's just creepy.

Another vote for gorgeous. Ok, ok...

I agree, let's add them to the list. Those are real gems. Seems like I remember a psychic who broadcast a tv program for awhile. (Can't remember his name..) He always referred to the dead as being "on the other side." So, while I may, at some point, "see you on the other side," I certainly hope it is not anytime soon. And I certainly hope that it is the place that has central AC!

1 & 2. Agree. I hate it when grammar is used incorrectly. I used to critique my ex boyfriend's love letters when I was in high school. I wasn't in AP English by accident. My friends and I would say stuff like "That is a run on sentence." LOL
    3. Just plain annoying. If you have to mislead people to get them to open your emails, you must be selling some crappy stuff.
    4. While I agree with you, it is what most people teach you to put in your sales letters so you can seem sympathetic.

    Just an observation...

A female person to whom you are engaged is called a fiancee.

On the other hand, if your engaged partner is a male, the word is fiance is correct.

"So your riding in you're car some day, feeling bigger then life, to happy too be paying attention to the road ..."

Many internet marketers seem to write like this in their ads, and wonder why they are not getting rich. Granted that my English grammar isn't always the best, since English is not my native language. But that kind of writing makes me seriously doubt that this person has anything to offer that will make me rich. Obviously, they either had no good education, or they were too lazy to pay attention in school. It is not always their fault of course, people all have their own background. But if they can't write any better, then writing salescopy probably isn't the best career choice for them.

Sadly, I have the impression that a majority of people who try to get rich online, aren't the brightest people. Chasing "to good too be treu" promises of richess, and spending "there" (or is it "they're" )money in the most obvious scams.
I was actually delighted to find some working brain cells here when I joined the warrior forum recently. There is still some hope for internet marketing, but I sympathise with this thread. If you see this kind of writing often enough, you might start thinking they invented a new language since you left school.

I absolutely feel your pain! Nothing aggravates me more than people who misspell and/or misuse words, and I hate it when their grammar is atrocious. It's like they just spell check their work, without reading through it, and leave it at that! Sometimes they don't even spell check!!

I love that you are part of the crowd, like me, who hate hearing "it's not your fault". Of course, people like to pass the blame onto something else or someone else for their problems, which is unfortunate! Own up to your mistakes!!!!

I loved your rant! Especially the part about your toe, it was completely unexpected and got a chuckle out of me! (Sorry! )
